House prices are low and landlords are leasing 2 bedroomed terraced homes once rented and owned by young people to Serco. Local people are now competing with asylum seekers and refugees for these homes. Deprived areas are made poorer, there are more homeless and all you argue for is for more.

You cannot ignore what has happened in this country over the last years. Wigan Borough, which includes Leigh has a council house waiting list of 12000. In 2021 there were 107 HMOs and in 2025 there are over 285 with more than 30 in Leigh town centre. This is a deprived area.

The reason the government is putting a freeze on family reunions is that it is putting huge pressure on councils who have to accommodate them. This puts refugees in competition with local families who also require housing. The pressure is on low value/low rent houses - I wonder where they are 🤔

Accommodation is? In deprived areas and as Burnham says, it’s immigration policy on the cheap (my words). It takes local housing away from local people and sees a proliferation of HMOs. There is no economic benefit to the community and it is “levelling down” not up. Racism is not the only cause.
