In this podcast, Martha Paynter discusses Canada’s complete decriminalization of abortion, abortion as a public good, the influence of the anti-choice lobby and the overturning of Roe vs. Wade in the US, and what it takes to make abortion truly equitable when decriminalization is not enough.

Rheanna Laderoute died of sepsis in an Ontario hospital in 2022, after developing an infection following an abortion using Mifegymiso. Two male doctors missed things, failed to listen to nurses' recommendations, and failed to act in time to save her. Ford's cuts to healthcare played a role too.

Abortion and other reproductive care services are vital to the economic success and freedom of people who can become pregnant. The high cost of living makes raising children expensive, and being able to prevent and terminate unwanted pregnancy is one way that people can opt out of these costs.

Bill C-2 could allow them to ask a doctor if they know of any specialist services – for example, a psychiatrist, oncologist, or abortion service – a client is using. She said this would allow the police to then approach them to glean information without a warrant. 5/

The presence of CCBR's graphic images on university campuses across Canada disrupts community life, forces some students to take alternate routes to classes (or avoid attending at all), fuels harassment, creates trauma and harm, and misrepresents established medical facts.

Choice isn't about billboards. Billboard companies don't get to have a say on a person's *right* to their body. The difference is, choosing to run anti-choice ads actively harms people. Our definition of choice doesn't include spreading misinformation and stigmatizing healthcare.
