Started my weekend in Black Mountain, NC, and joined Buncombe County Dems who are already organizing to elect fighters like @roycoopernc.bsky.social. Despite all the bad news these days, this is what gives me hope: communities like this doing the work and holding Donald Trump accountable.

And how NC’s failure to elect Dems to it in 2020 and 2022 contributed to the mess we’re witnessing right now. If NC hadn’t been gerrymandered by Republicans in 2023, then we’d still have a 7-7 congressional split and Dems would control the U.S. House of Representatives. We can’t not focus on home!

…money. And it’s a problem. But I’m not sure how to say it other than explain it. The money is not there right now to do this. However, you will start to see those ads as the senate campaign ramps up in the state. I know folks want them now, I do too, but I can’t underscore how expensive that is.
…for a state party to do that year-round. That’s why most of the Republican ads you see aren’t paid for by the Republican Party. They’re paid for by PACs (super PACs) or independent expenditures (IEs) who are controlled by big money donors. Republicans are currently outspending Dems in IE / PAC…
Because television ads costs $1mil / week to run them. That’s half our operating budget for an entire year. We have 22 staff at the NCDP right now, who are in communities making sure we’re talking to neighbors and educating folks at their door. I would love to put up ads, but the $$ is too much…

Chief Justice Paul Newby (seat is up in 2028). Justice Tamara Barringer (seat is up in 2028). Justice Phil Berger Jr. (yes, related to *that* Phil Berger (senate) and also up in 2028). And last but certainly not least, Trey Allen (whose seat we can’t take until 2030 sadly).
Four republicans on the North Carolina Supreme Court (pictured above) voted to overturn the will of the voters and the election of Justice Allison Riggs. Four republicans on the N.C. Supreme Court chose to retroactively toss out ballots of military voters. We won’t WHO they are.
Yesterday, Justice Allison Riggs was sworn in as the 106th member of the North Carolina Supreme Court. The program read, “In November of 2024, Justice Allison Riggs won her seat…her race was certified May 13th, 2025.” Even 6 months of NCGOP election denial couldn’t stop Justice.
