Yeah this is interesting but seems naive to read too literally. At the very least, I’d say this is also a referendum on how “cancelable” the poll takers think their own politics are: and that itself might be based in some degree of truth, and/or based on the perceived Big Woke Agenda.

It’s content designed to affirm the priors and massage the feelings of centrists: I’m correct, they (both right AND left) are dumb, just vote for Dems and things will be better. Consumption is made to feel you’re “doing something” or at least “staying informed” when you’re just patting yr own back

Yeah, I’m not really surprised by anything he said. But I think he needs to articulate his narrative—and his particular version of how he sees this informing his positions now—more clearly than what I saw if he wants to be a politician.

A new story released by NPR earlier today further confirms what has already been perceived by many: Biden, Blinken, Sullivan and McGurk were personally favorable to Israel no matter its behavior and dismissed internal attempts to hold Israel accountable and to enforce US law on military assistance.

Several of the officials who spoke to NPR said it was Biden's soft spot for Israel, however, that kept him from being politically tough, even in the face of a humanitarian catastrophe that the administration was well aware of. One former senior official described the administration's approach as

In other words, we are in the final few years of pre-AGI civilisation, after which nothing may ever be the same again. To some the prospect is apocalyptic, to others, like Hassabis, it’s utopian. “Assuming we steward it safely and responsibly into the world, and obviously we’re trying to play our part in that, then we should be in a world of what I sometimes call radical abundance,” says Hassabis. He paints a picture of medical advances, room-temperature superconductors, nuclear fusion, advances in materials, mathematics. “It should lead to incredible productivity and therefore prosperity for society. Of course, we’ve got to make sure it gets distributed fairly, but that’s more of a political question. And if it is, we should be in an amazing world of abundance for maybe the first time in human history, where things don’t have to be zero sum. And if that works, we should be travelling to the stars, really.” Is he getting too close to his own technology? There are so many issues around AI, it’s difficult to know where to even begin: deepfakes and misinformation; replacement of human jobs; vast energy consumption; use of copyright material, or simply AI deciding that we humans are expendable and taking matters into its own hands.

It’s cool how “some” in this instance means “Andrew Cuomo”

The IPC has issued an alert for the "Worst-case scenario of Famine unfolding in the Gaza Strip." My friend in Gaza, a doctor, writes:"Now, the majority of ppl we attend to are victims of this man made starvation. The level of agony & loss due to starvation has increased dramatically since yesterday"

Hey all! I'm selling stickers (and books!) to support a new daytime center in OKC for unhoused people. They want to install some much needed laundry machines. We're trying to reach $1000 between all donations. Stickers are $2, and books $18. Let me know if you want any!

A little too ironic that it’s a chemistry grad student doing this—when the Cornell Grad Union efforts were catalyzed by a chemical engineering student being denied insurance coverage by Cornell after an injury in the lab where he was doing his research (ie, his JOB) www.chronicle.com/article/grad...

If you're a JHUP book author (past, present, or potential) this is of immediate interest to you, of course. But JHUP also runs Project Muse – which none of the articles about this policy mention. I would be v surprised if they aren't planning on sinking that into AI mud, too. (JSTOR already has).
