I gave up cable over 2 decades ago so I kind of go back and forth on this. People can choose what media to consume, or not. But our media landscape today is also very fractured compared to the golden age of the big 3. I think this environment encourages krankism because it draws dedicated audiences.
I mean, I don’t find pluralism all that great, I believe there is ultimately one reality. But it’s not like I have a problem with people using that method. I think a lot of ‘centrists’ are also just people who aren’t really sure, and go with what ‘seems legit’ at the time.

Progressivism and leftism aren’t the same. Progressivism was formed out of direct action towards specific goals, like the standard of a 40 hour work week. I’m quite sure any folks that see themselves in this description would just scoff at my presumed McCarthyism or whatever, but Sanders can’t even get close to winning the Dem primary, and that’s a relatively friendly context for him, compared to a general election. Leftism is profoundly unpopular.
It’s probably a mind bending thing to hear for leftists and left adjacent minded professionals and intellectuals, but the reality is mainstream Dems have a far better understanding of how to win than they do. And leftists are dragging Dems down, it’s not that they fail.
I have composed four replies to this and deleted them all. It’s too much to get into (maybe I should start using my substack account). Suffice to say, this displays an extreme amount of disconnection from ‘working people,’ of which I am one. And I’m surrounded by Trump voters at my job.

If you’re holding out for a deus ex machina solution to society’s ills you will always be disappointed. A system of government with the unilateral power to crush tyranny before it can take root is tyrannical itself, already.
Conversely, while that 1-3% may be enough to tank a Dem candidate, it’s just as bonkers to rearrange your entire national strategy to try and win them. If Dems started winning that 1-3% they would become their only voters. You give up everything else for this shiny object they’ve made of themselves.

Gendered language in my experience in specifically MI and WI is not a very serious thing. Perhaps I have been using ‘the Midwest’ with too broad a stroke. The trouble for folks over this language seems to be that being so specific about it is really only considered in an intimate context.
Anyway, even when twitter was ‘the good place,’ it was already ‘the bad place.’
And my use of ‘guys’ here I should hope is clearly within a context to denote males. It’s just as common to refer to any group here in the Midwest as ‘guys,’ and those contexts do not denote gender. (A server asking ‘what can I get for you guys’)
I got a 24 hour suspension one time over a gif that used the word ‘dude’ while interacting with a trans person. Here in the Midwest, it’s shockingly common for guys to use ‘dude’ and ‘bro’ even when talking to women. It is just casual language. It took me 12 hours to figure out why I got suspended.
The vast majority (I talk to hundreds of real people every week at my job which adds up to thousands over a year) of GOP voters do not express hate for lgbt people. They don’t like being force-fed academic language and being expected to be constantly aware of complete stranger’s preferred pronouns.
And the great tragedy is the vast majority of people advocating for ‘more socialism’ are talking about food stamps, housing and healthcare. They aren’t talking about literal socialism, and it’s unclear if they understand what that actually is.
Woke, ‘trans ideology’ and a plethora of other popular catch phrases on the ‘right’ can all be boiled down to a belief that all of this stems from leftism, and is therefore part of the leftist Trojan horse to remake society. It’s literally leftism that’s making it impossible to move on any of this.
