I gave up cable over 2 decades ago so I kind of go back and forth on this. People can choose what media to consume, or not. But our media landscape today is also very fractured compared to the golden age of the big 3. I think this environment encourages krankism because it draws dedicated audiences.

I mean, I don’t find pluralism all that great, I believe there is ultimately one reality. But it’s not like I have a problem with people using that method. I think a lot of ‘centrists’ are also just people who aren’t really sure, and go with what ‘seems legit’ at the time.
Adam Muraski (@adammuraski.bsky.social)
He refers to himself as ‘Mr Beast.’ He is a clown. You legitimize his pretense towards being serious about anything when you take umbrage.
Adam Muraski (@adammuraski.bsky.social)
Wait, you read Mr Beast, a man who has made an Internet personality his actual real personality, as a ‘centrist?’ He legitimately goes by Mr Beast, he is nothing but a clown. Also, the general hate towards moderates and centrists is really a bunch of nonsense anyway.

He was producing the generally most accurate (on average) polling analysis. Then he got radicalized by people hounding him on social media (which I can only presume somehow dovetailed with stuff in his personal life, that’s how those things generally happen).

I’m quite sure that for Silver, progressivism rates lower among the general population because of the widely held assumption today that it is simply a placeholder for leftism. Blatant leftists get more of a pass bc ‘at least they’re honest about it.’ Many see ‘progressive’ as a Trojan horse now.

Progressivism and leftism aren’t the same. Progressivism was formed out of direct action towards specific goals, like the standard of a 40 hour work week. Progressivism is not an ideology but a position. Leftism is an ideology whose goal is to replace every institution with prefabricated structures.
Adam Muraski (@adammuraski.bsky.social)
The end times prophecies of ‘the left’ look a lot more like medieval and evangelical conceptions of the end times than the general symbolism that’s actually written. Even including the demands that all Jews must repent of their ways and answer for the sins of Israel and/or convert.
Adam Muraski (@adammuraski.bsky.social)
Truly shocking that ‘the left’ can’t get a foothold in American politics when they offer such a realistic view.

$600 TVs are seen from the other side of the fence as offering folks more of their income to plan their own lives, and retirement, if that’s what they wish. A more robust social security plan that would fully cover retirement is not mutually exclusive to the possibility of cheap electronics.

As I’ve said elsewhere, capitalism is a dead word. It’s beyond salvation for usefulness as a word for general communication beyond those who already share the views of the speaker. There are at least two widespread definitions in use, and if you really want to get technical, probably 10-20.
Adam Muraski (@adammuraski.bsky.social)
Imperialism has a definition, it doesn’t mean ‘generally bad,’ just like genocide isn’t a general designation for a disproportionate response. If it is demonstrably true that US policy is complicit in conditions in Haiti, that should be dealt with on its own terms. Not by leveraging hyperbole.

Adam Muraski (@adammuraski.bsky.social)
Of course over in the left-o-sphere it’s taken as proven fact that the US does the imperialism. All of this is based upon ideas such as neocolonialism, a designation that was required because there is no literal colonialism. That, and Darth Vader is very convincing as a villain.
Adam Muraski (@adammuraski.bsky.social)
The debate is not over whether imperialism is bad, the debate is over whether the US is doing the imperialism.

I’ve said it before but it bears repeating, Biden was the last Dem who could hobble together some form of a coalition that included leftists and moderates. When the leftists successfully leveraged their tortured interpretation of ‘genocide’ to oust Biden, they themselves set fire to that coalition.

Gendered language in my experience in specifically MI and WI is not a very serious thing. Perhaps I have been using ‘the Midwest’ with too broad a stroke. The trouble for folks over this language seems to be that being so specific about it is really only considered in an intimate context.

And the great tragedy is the vast majority of people advocating for ‘more socialism’ are talking about food stamps, housing and healthcare. They aren’t talking about literal socialism, and it’s unclear if they understand what that actually is.
Adam Muraski (@adammuraski.bsky.social)
Woke, ‘trans ideology’ and a plethora of other popular catch phrases on the ‘right’ can all be boiled down to a belief that all of this stems from leftism, and is therefore part of the leftist Trojan horse to remake society. It’s literally leftism that’s making it impossible to move on any of this.
Adam Muraski (@adammuraski.bsky.social)
Some really do love the guns. But the inability to enact gun reform comes from paranoia of a socialist dictatorship, no matter how unlikely that is. ‘Far left’ candidates get around 1% of the vote. Quasi-leftish (Nader) about 3%. Neoliberal market types can get almost 20% (Perot).
