Still niche but folks are figuring out how to make them last. they are to the point that multiple solar car teams ran with them at the World Solar Challenge in Australia a few months ago - cars with them finished 4th, 7th, and 8th. Frankly I think they'll dominate at the next one in two years.
much more interesting are the perovskite-silicon tandems, which have hit 35% in the lab, and are starting to be available in commercial quantities in the high 20%s - better than the best commercially available monocrystaline silicon cells
The current record for an un-concentrated cell (not focusing under mirrors/lenses) are some insane 6-junction gallium-indium-arsinide research cells up at 39.5% (but those are $$$$$ with no real path towards commercialization)
A *silicon single-junction cell* has a theoretically max 32% conversion efficiency. There are other cell chemistries, and you can stack different cell chemistries on top of each other to take advantage of differing band gap sensitivities.

maybe i should revisit it, it might come off more favorably now that iphones automatically HDR all your pictures to hell and there's no way to turn it off.
yeah maybe "potato" was unfair - it was certainly better than, say, my old iphone 5S or original xaiomi Mi Mix. It just didn't seem to effortlessly snap good pictures the way my friend's Pixel phones were doing at the time.
similarly i kind of miss my xperia 5 mark III. if you've gotta have a big screen, narrow + tall felt much more ergonomic than the aspect ratio everyone else has decided on. dual SIM or SIM + microSD was pretty cool. had a headphone jack. shame the camera was a potato.
