Up until (and including) Martyn, Dollmaker's entire sex life was paying people to come over and be a doll for it, which occasionally involved sexual contact. So yeah Dollmaker's basically always hosting. Martyn has two roommates wtih good sense of smell so it's probably for the best.

I love how a person’s wol is a reflection of themselves in some way. I can’t really separate the wol from the player for that reason, so my answer is really just that if I appreciate the player, I appreciate their wol as if they were their art piece or pet x)

To the best of my understanding the character was always intended as female, and it was just that the localizers didn't see their body under the armor and made some assumptions. Was that it?

This reminds me - my mom was reading my Dollmaker/Martyn fic (yes she reads my fic yes the smut too) the other day, and paused, and said "Wait a minute. Are you like Dollmaker or like Martyn? Because both of them are like you." Dollmaker's the OC but I write both of them to have a lot of my traits.
I think that's really insightful!! And I fully agree - every character I write (even pre-established NPCs) has some bit of me, and I'm sure it's the same for other people. It's interesting seeing people through that lens, for sure.

I love how many of the responses to my question are just "I like seeing people make an OC". It's charming.
Hmmm...well It comes in several layers so I'll try to be as precise with it as possible. 1) surface layer: if your overall aesthethics or theme catch my attention. This is essentially what I me hooked. 2) their story: I like to know who, what and why your character is who they are.
Much like Aulus this also resulted in me facedown on the floor after repeated punchings. Ah well.
I think it's less the specifics and more the execution, it's kinda hard to say. Some things just grab me and some don't - but I like when it's something unexpected. Something you don't usually expect to see in that role.
im a chronic oc enjoyer and with ffxiv in particular im just endlessly fascinated by how we all can play the same game and come up with vastly different interpretations of the world. its hard to say specifically what draws me to someones wol, i guess its simply if they talk at all about them
