Maybe a topic for a YouTube video? Anyway, nice that you’re interacting. Mvh Anders FT

Hi Anders, Can I ask about a different subject? In the U.S., people who oppose Trump (senators, election workers ect) are often pelted with online abuse and death treats, with a stifling effect on public engagement. To what extent might this be driven by foreign malign actors?

You were perhaps a bit too restrained and polite when Andrew M called you - meaning Denmark- a ‘delinquent’, and warned Europeans that we were/are living in a fantasy world, and that we had to trust the transatlantic alliance. That’s rich, considering his governments policy and utterances.

Amen! The UK should reorient towards Europe. We miss You. 🇩🇰

To look at the bright side, isn’t a collapsing oil price pretty good news for Ukraine?

Goodness, we more or less agree🙂. Have a nice day over there🇺🇸 🇬🇱🇩🇰

On the serious side, President Trump talks about taking, owning, and controlling Greenland, using military force if need be. Presumably against Greenlanders and Danes. Not about win-win deals with an Independent Greenland. Where is the need for that? Transfering the mineral rights to the U.S.?
aftho.bsky.social (@aftho.bsky.social) reply parent
Re Charlie Kirk, I think he got a bit carried away; there are no polar bears walking the streets of Nuuk, and if baseball-sized rubies were lying around, Greenland wouldn’t need to be subsidized. And 51st State? Greenlanders being very left-leaning, that would mean 2 AOC-like senators for congress.
aftho.bsky.social (@aftho.bsky.social) reply parent
So why do the U.S. need the Greenlanders to cede their country? Do they charge too much for their mining concesssions? Are their environmental policies too strict?
aftho.bsky.social (@aftho.bsky.social) reply parent
The U.S. has had bases up there for +75 years, protecting the U.S. from intercontinental bombing. Rent free. If the U.S. wants to ramp up its Artic presence, it’s free to open more bases. And any U.S. mining company can negotiate a mining concession with the Greenlandic government.
aftho.bsky.social (@aftho.bsky.social) reply parent
But Defeat, the U.S. military and mining companies have access as it is. Why would you want the Greenlanders to cede land ?

He called her nasty in 2019, when she called his idea of buying Greenland “absurd” and “hopefully a joke”. So no doubt he is out to get revenge.

Yes, and worth pointing out, that lately Denmark has been quite a good ally. It’s aid per GDP to Ukraine being about 4 times greater than the US’.
aftho.bsky.social (@aftho.bsky.social) reply parent
This is 1) a ploy to mess up Nato, and 2) because she called his 2019 bid for Greenland “absurd “. His biographers say, that he never lets a slight go unrevenged . And of cause 3) because Greenland is huuge, and full of imaginary booty.
aftho.bsky.social (@aftho.bsky.social) reply parent
Yes. And a non-lawyer like me wonders, if Denmark could sue the U.S. government for breach of this agreement in a U.S. court if Trump actually annex Greenland?
aftho.bsky.social (@aftho.bsky.social) reply parent
You’re right. But Denmark and most other NATO members would go to great lenghts to keep the U.S. in. So no shooting. Playing for time, they might try to take the breach of article 1 to court instead of invoking art.5. And hope for a friendly President in 28, or for a President Vance before that.

Well, they aren’t exactly resistant. But certainly more environmentally concerned than MAGA.
