They are all really awesome people - huge on education and helping others. Apparently one of my aunts was a Latin genius? That’s what everyone in my family described her as. When it came down to it I just had so much fun with them - they loved my pink hair and lip ring when I was younger. I
Fun fact : Bill Murray’s sister is an Adrian Dominican and she did a touring play where she was St Catherine of Sienna and at the end she threw her head into the crowd and I just about died
There was a sister cannonball in Detroit but she didn’t blow anything up - she was just a badass lawyer and was really into sports
We need more TV shows about nuns. We should have one about radical nuns that go around blowing things up.
I had 3 radical nuns in my family - they were the coolest ladies. I’d love to see something about all the crazy shit the Adrian Dominican sisters did and continue to do!!

…and like, idk some really fucked up shit happened to us but we were white skater punk kids in macomb county…like….other kids had it much worse
Me and my friends loved to be outside, riding our bikes, having fun in fields, marshes, and the woods…skateboarding in places that didn’t get in anyone’s way and the cops would show up multiple times before the streetlights and search, chase, and tell us to go to someone’s house. 🤷🏼♀️
Ironically I found these little rubber ducks with Mohawks (we give out fun ducks to the kids) and asked my boss if I could take them home and I was literally in the middle of punting them out when I clicked the song!!

Oh my, I guess I drove by there every day for years and for so much of my life that even when I am now visiting I just know that part of 94 and what was there. When I worked on Belle isle I used to take that exit every day.

Literally the coolest part of growing up near Eddie’s Drive-In in Harrison township, like a few times a week people were just parked with their badass rides chilling and we could walk there (no sidewalk though) or like chill in the Lincoln town car my dad drove after my grandpa passed.
I got you, both done. Scary and sad - my grandfather did 4 lend lease trips before the Americans got involved and then spent time over in the pacific on destroyers. 🙏🙏

It’s not that I want it so badly or anything but the fact that it was so important to her just fucking kills me, hopefully it will all work out, I am just so tired.

I always dislike how people get about a loved one’s belongings when they die but it is something that tends to happen and I really didn’t want anything from my grandma, but for years and up until the last time I saw her she would bring up this one jacket and that it was to be mine…
Not much surprises me anywhere, I grew up mostly sailing on the Detroit River and Lake St Clair as a kid, but have coached in a number of settings and I just expect anything to be able to hit me or fail at anytime, trust nothing.
Just so sad, I hope it’s just the most tragic set of coincidences. Sadly
Oh absolutely, from what I know that program has a pretty good rep. I believe there were also single/double handled sailboats out there which would have meant coaches in safety boats and an understanding to stay away from not just the barge but any number of things.
but - losing anchor for the barge or not being anchored/any number of mechanical failure on the sailboat can also cause them to lose steerage/control over the boat, could be any number of things. I have had and seen so many almost scary/dangerous/disastrous situations in my life
I’ve worked in youth sailing for 15+ years, and spent my childhood involved in it and this story has been killing me and my biggest personal fear. It could be a lot of things, it could also be a combination of awful circumstances. Most coaches know to stay away from stuff like that

THIS IS ALL SO STUPID AND I HATE IT. Windsor YC is apart of Detroit’s Sailing Org. Which means we share race courses and support each other - I hate that so much amazing research/work/awesome lake things are suffering. They are our shared waters, a place we could come together, fuck this shit
At times when I was very broke and only had a little bit of every paycheck to spend on anything - I always paid the 5$ monthly for PBS. It was always worth it and would also give a little here and there to my local NPR station because I love and value them so much

I’ll never forget the day I was driving home from work on 696 approaching the 94 interchange and I got cut off by a white 2010 Chevy Malibu that then accelerated like hell, it was my grandma who was in her mid 70s at the time. Lmao

Okay so, all of that sucks esp with the PCB’s, etc but I laughed way too hard at “Ate Mile LLC”
And it’s not unique to being Detroit Irish Catholic it’s just how it was described to me as a kid, i guess it’s more like, pity for their miserable and awful views and lives
(It’s my *Irish Catholic empathy* which isn’t a weak thing, or even feeling bad, for me it’s just personally sad to think of all the beautiful, amazing, and terrible things out in the world and how sad of a life it is to not see and embrace it or make that easy simple change. (It’s how I stay sane)
No they cannot! And I must say - when I think back to my Godfather, or family experience and outside of their own, all the work that is constantly being done it is just a cycle we are meant to play our part in. So it goes… and fucking aye we will always find ways to fight back
It is, I cannot even say that I hate it or that it makes me angry (which it does) but I think it is just so unfortunate and awful for people to have to live their lives believing and advocating for an ultimate worse life for everyone.
I guess that was the blessing of growing up Irish Catholic in the Detroit area, my family gave me a real honest view of the world at a young age . It’s my greatest gift and we must all use whatever we have to fight this bullshit. I do hate it so much, I just try not to let it get me down too badly
I know and when you actually break it down to people who are skeptical and bought into the media about “DEI” and “woke education” and just explain that history is always dark and awful but if you cannot understand how oppression/hate/edu manifests itself then how will you being able to identify it
Oh I am already on it - I don’t do well digitally with things but have a great memory and am amazing with print (runs in the family) and when I spent 15 years working with kids I’ve learned that I still have so many important resources that have corrected the fallacies they were taught.
Unfortunately, they couldn’t give a lot of $$$ beforehand and no one cares about their accolades and contributions to making a bit of the world better (because they often suffered professionally, never did any of it for the credit or recognition). It’s sad that the world doesn’t want those types
Now, my mother (and 4 of her siblings) all took part in activism and learned to fight the status quo at Michigan (from 1962-1985) and it is something that they all continued into their respective careers. They have all wrote many angry alumni letters and stopped all donations to the school.
Ive spoken to quite a few of them (outside of my family members who are all life long activist) and they are so fucking pissed off about this issue in particular and have been very upset.
Due to my work in sailing I spent my time around a ton of people who were at Michigan (and other schools) in the 60s/70s…I wouldn’t call these people activists now, mostly moderate types BUT ONE THING THEY ALL ARE PROUD OF was the things they took part in during their youth….
I am somehow one of the few who is not on teams (not for any reason just sailing/jobs/etc used other things) but it is really probably because I am just a natural rebel.
Late 50s/early 60s - oh and I know! And of course. She loved to sew/knit/crochet/etc - my sister also does and she is taking her unfinished projects and a lot of things, we literally have 4 garbage bags of yarn and other stuff we are giving to a nonprofit who is ecstatic. But it’s a nice machine
Who will continue to create and value what it is.
Please share or forward to anyone you may know who would want this, we are already donating so much of her craft stuff to a nonprofit but we will give away the sewing machine for free (she had 4) but it really is a beautiful/functional and amazing piece, we would just love for it to go to someone

OH SHE WAS! 4’11” - a jitterbug champ in the 50s and got pregnant as a teenager…the funniest and sassiest woman I had ever met. She had a really amazing end, happy and at peace and the last time I saw her (11 days ago) she talked about going to the bar and being a better driver than the F1 racers

I know Aladdin is so sketchy but it sparked something that made me learn about how sketchy it really is. And like I said, it definitely has its issues but overall I’m happy for what it gave me.

Right? It’s so weird because I grew up in the Detroit area and my movie was Aladdin, I was obsessed and my parents took the opportunity to drive me down to Dearborn and make sure I would learn more about a culture and people I was super interested in (we are Irish) and I think back to how lucky

SAME OMG I HAVE BEEN DRAWING AND SAVING SO MUCH LATELY - fun fact my mothers maiden name means “moon” and we love sailing, she made me a sailor moon costume in 1996 by hand and destroyed her wedding gloves for me. I think I need a dark lady tattoo because she is the reason I had pink hair!!
