I've received many messages from concerned constituents over the past 24 hours, asking me about the standing ovation connected to Charlie Kirk in yesterday's session in the House of Commons. Please see my statement on the matter.

Over the past 24 hours, I’ve received many messages from constituents asking whether I stood for Monday’s ovation in the House of Commons connected to the murder of American podcaster Charlie Kirk. The answer is no, I did not stand. Neither did many of my Liberal colleagues. Let me be clear: I am strongly opposed to political violence in all its forms. I am also strongly opposed to hate speech and discrimination, which unfortunately permeated Mr. Kirk’s work. Furthermore, his violent death in the United States has only led to escalating violent rhetoric here in Canada. We have seen intensified hate speech and threats, harassment campaigns stoked by public officials, and organized mobs trying to destroy the careers of fellow Canadians. The injustice of what befell him last week should not be used to excuse or ignore any of this. Ignoring the harms that hate speech and harassment inflict on vulnerable communities means abandoning those who fear for their safety in the face of that rhetoric. I will not stand by while Canadians feel dehumanized by violent rhetoric, and threatened by the political movements and actors that wield it.

The IPCC says that it is an effective mitigation strategy as well. www.ipcc.ch/report/ar6/w... > TS.5.8 Demand-side Aspects of Mitigation

Mitigation strategies can be classified as Avoid-Shift-Improve (ASI) options, that reflect opportunities for socio-cultural, infrastructural, and technological change. The greatest Avoid potential comes from reducing long-haul aviation and providing short-distance low-carbon urban infrastructures. The greatest Shift potential would come from switching to plant-based diets. The greatest Improve potential comes from within the building sector, and in particular increased use of energy efficient end-use technologies and passive housing.

Is it not true that the biggest driver of natural habitat loss in the country is due to clearing land for livestock?

Glad I went and got my MMR shot a month ago! Everyone should do the same, it's free at your local pharmacy.

How do we know the Huanan market was the epicenter of the COVID-19 pandemic? Through some pretty amazing detective work. Read the inside story, and how the scientists who figured it out were subsequently smeared by a concerted media assault because their research destroyed the lab leak myth.

The thing about that Oxfam report is that it is counting the investments of the rich. But if we redistribute their shares in oil and meat and dairy to the worlds poor, emissions will not go down. It's not as if the JBS brothers are eating all those steaks themselves.

That is the theory, but I recall seeing studies showing that it doesn't really work that way in real life.

One of my staples is a quick lentil soup. Lentils, carrots, olive oil, herbs and salt. Very yummy, I serve it with some good bread and nice glass of red wine. PS: When I lived in Peru, Canadian lentils were on offer at every public market. "Lunes lentajes" is a big thing there.
