It's not just that people like meat. Meat & dairy are heavily promoted by governments, schools, and development agencies. So part of the solution is to lobby them to change that. Another solution is to changes in choice architecture via the types of restaurants in our towns.

Yeah but cutting all fossil fuels within a few months, or even a few years would result in most industry shutdown, most buildings without heat, most foods unable to be transported to the cities. Cutting meat and dairy can be achieved within a couple of years without causing a major crisis.

The thing about that Oxfam report is that it is counting the investments of the rich. But if we redistribute their shares in oil and meat and dairy to the worlds poor, emissions will not go down. It's not as if the JBS brothers are eating all those steaks themselves.

One of my staples is a quick lentil soup. Lentils, carrots, olive oil, herbs and salt. Very yummy, I serve it with some good bread and nice glass of red wine. PS: When I lived in Peru, Canadian lentils were on offer at every public market. "Lunes lentajes" is a big thing there.
