They did say that they've struggled with giving UB characters cards in green, and when you think about it, the color really does not lend itself well to a lot of character archetypes. So there's definitely at least a kernel of truth here.

And it's not even like there's no material to dip into - I'm counting subclasses they've published that are just rewrites of older ones. The Cleric, for example, has had no unique playtest subclasses, instead having three rewrites, but that's still three technically new write-ups. Where's the barb?
Scott Rivers (@alasbabylon.bsky.social) reply parent
Specifically: in all of the 2024 era, not a single bit of content has been made for them. There are no barbarian subclasses to playtest. There's been no indication that one is in the pipeline for a future book. There's multiple sorcerer ones and warlock ones, Fighter's had a few, but no barbarians.
Scott Rivers (@alasbabylon.bsky.social)
Unearthed Arcana - playtest content for 5th edition D&D - has definitely been hit or miss over its history. The latest document, which very clearly is referencing Dark Sun despite lacking any official affiliation, is actually pretty solid, though it continues to exacerbate an odd issue: Barbarians.

But gameplay wise? Mmmmph. Far better balance of all the weapons and boons (Athena being relegated to a special event NPC was a smart move, and even her Dash boon isn't as powerful thanks to how Melinoe's movement mechanics work), and a lot more variety thanks to the Surface as an alternate path.
Scott Rivers (@alasbabylon.bsky.social) reply parent
100%'d the game before it's left early access. I think I can confidently say Hades 2 is phenomenal - if you liked Hades 1, it's a sequel that improves on pretty much every mechanical aspect of the original. The characters might not feel as memorable, but we've got the story to implement anyway.
Scott Rivers (@alasbabylon.bsky.social)
All aspects beaten at 32 Fear, all keepsakes leveled up to max (something I neglected to do, but got that done), and now going through the Chaos Trials in Hades II (especially the "randomizer" ones - [Great] Chaos Above and [Great] Chaos Below). Once that's over with, I will have essentially...
Scott Rivers (@alasbabylon.bsky.social) reply parent
But at least you can kind of make a Hostile Environment (Demeter/Ares duo) build and come out somewhat fine. Still. Shiva is actually pretty decent, but it's extremely Magick intensive, so the early game is rough. But it has the capability of doing big chungus damage, so we'll see.
Scott Rivers (@alasbabylon.bsky.social) reply parent
Just two to go. These are probably the two I have the least fun with - Selene has become cumbersome to play in light of most other aspects feeling buttery smooth to play, and locking yourself into Ares (and out of other Hexes) really honks.

Scott Rivers (@alasbabylon.bsky.social) reply parent
So I've decided, on these underworld runs... forget it. Bump up the price of shops, cull some boons, and make Chronos a regular boy again. And let me tell you - regular Chronos is *laughably* easy comparatively. And that's cool with me. 9 weapons down, 15 to go.
Scott Rivers (@alasbabylon.bsky.social) reply parent
Phase 2 of the whole fight has him doing his instakill move. Not usually an issue, but if you don't phase him, he summons a sand dome in the middle that can stun you if you so much as touch it, and that's during his *second* of three instakill explosions. Without Death Defiances, you're dead.
Scott Rivers (@alasbabylon.bsky.social) reply parent
Chronos, though... it's his phase 3. It's a playfield that's big enough to scroll the screen, with AOE effects and scythe strikes and dashes and random garbage going on that you have to constantly dodge as *he's* bamfing around the arena like it's his playground. The biggest issue though:
Scott Rivers (@alasbabylon.bsky.social) reply parent
Scylla is just kind of annoying with how many projectiles the band throws at you (including the fourth band member they've found for the fight) and the whole fight seems like a minefield, and Cerberus has no room to maneuver while he decides to dart around and belch fire all over the place.
Scott Rivers (@alasbabylon.bsky.social)
Completed all weapons on 32 Fear on the Surface in Hades 2 (of which I'm feeling *a lot* better about than I did before, difficulty-wise - they've done a fantastic job retooling the Surface, and the Rivals versions of the bosses are solid challenges). Now it's the Underworld. And it's got hands.
