This is always a fundamental problem in these discussions and i've learned to mostly stay quiet about it. But yeah whether you like it or not, money is power and if you exclude everyone with money or power from your cause, you're committing to the hardest possible underdog mode.

The problem with discourse on American policing is exactly the opposite of a failure of imagination, too much pontificating on the platonic nature of law enforcement and not enough treating it like a concrete policy problem where we look at best practices from peers that get better value for money.
“Agent of the government empowered to use violence in its name to enforce its laws” is a pretty old invention, actually. This is what I’m talking about, this is just like magical thinking: you need *someone* to maintain and exercise the state’s monopoly on force. It’s literally unavoidable, sorry!
