I looked at the image data, and the flash did go off, explaining the extra sheen on the closest tulips. No special lens.
I took the photo in April 2006. I looked at the image data, and the flash did go off, thus the reason for the flowers in the foreground to have highlights on them.
It was a long time ago, so I don't really recall. I didn't use any special lens. It was outside, so fairly bright, although it looks like a flash was used which doesn't make sense. The fields were just enormous, so it stretched to the vanishing point.
The flower fields are so amazing and beautiful...just a sea of colors. I've been to the ones in Holland as well, and there are some down near San Diego in California (though they may not be tulips).
