So, I don’t think much has changed over the last generation (Millennial-GenZ) except a significant number of young men have backslid into grubby little children w/out ambition. The problem isn’t the young women & their standards minimum standards of gainful employment/hygiene/equal partner.
That’s not true for any demographic except the wealthy/bourgeoisie. Historically, middle class, working class, and the poor women have always worked to earn an income outside the home as well as work in the home. Also, since the early 20th c all classes of women have been working outside the home.
There’s nothing wrong with national pride. It’s actually a good thing. However, there’s a huge problem with national arrogance.
How have the trappings of “male adulthood changed to become so enigmatic that they are unrecognizable by either sex”? Again GenZ women don’t have the same dating gap as young men, and assuming that these women are cis het, they are male finding partners. Just not in their cohort.
Perhaps “becoming” was the wrong word. I meant it in a child to adult developmental sense. And “the species,” as you so curiously termed it, would probably have been better off, since women growing up early into adulthood is literally the norm, while “boys will be boys” has always been.

Not to put too fine a point on it, but many young men are just not adapting to the new environment. They don’t have the provider mentality of their fathers/grandfathers, they don’t have responsibility, the grooming standards, or the true partnership attributes that modern women want. It’s bad.
