In Canberra, we'd just like if they upgraded the train to Sydney to at least 19th Century standards, or even early 20th Century.

My Monaro example was silly …. I was sort of joking just to show an asset that is probably not worth the paper value. A better criticism would be that IF you have this limit then it should be indexed. $3m in super sounds rich now … wait until inflation deals with it.

Pay up when you realise gains. Because if the suggested value drops that “gain” was never real. Like owning Tesla stock.
allanhevans.bsky.social (@allanhevans.bsky.social) reply parent
The issue is taxing unrealised gains. The notion that you tax something that hasn't been realised is absurd. Should we do that if someone owns a classic car? ... "oh, ... that Monaro is probably worth $200,000 now ... that means you've made $180,000 ... pay up please".

Tim Cook has been documented explaining why Apple manufactures products in China. The true reason is because of the skill, the quantity of skill in one location, and the type of skill it is. Not because of labor cost since China stopped being a low labour cost country many years ago.

Well, to be fair, it is true. By "country" they just mean Putin and the Oligarchs now, whereas before it was the Czar and Court.

When people mocked the long lines to see the Queens coffin, I reminded them that we are all in a long line to see a coffin. Some are just closer than others.

Spend the time and effort educating the young about the dangers. This is terrible policy and totally unworkable.
