I’m not so sure on either count — why then choose unpopular and ridiculous ‘policies’, and still not even bother with any details? I’d agree he wants power, but that’s different to the serious (and often boring) responsibilities of running the country.

The ‘political climate’ would be far cooler if it wasn’t for the media, like ITV, and the Mail, and many others besides. Unfortunately, over the years, politicians and the media have developed a somewhat symbiotic relationship. I’m sure you know this. Judging by the replies, others do.

On the EU, him & Ed are aligned on that, and I wouldn’t be surprised if he would be happy to go into a coalition in order to achieve what they both really want. Going back to my theory of an unofficial cooperation, perhaps laying the groundwork for that.
He’s done the whole ‘I want to be straight with you’ and ‘build trust’ thing before, and doubt he’s changed his mind. I think (maybe it’s hope) that we’ll start to see Labour’s push-back when Parliament is back. Farage sees the Summer recess as an opportunity to take the headlines & cause trouble.
That said, I do think — and certain Labour do too — that they have to find a robust way of tackling problems like Farage and the media narratives. They can’t not. It’ll almost certainly be different to Ed’s approach.
Thought this too, but then I wondered why, why Ed is taking the lead. Might be wrong but here’s my thinking… As PM, he doesn’t want to seem like he or Labour (Gov) are trying to coerce the media. Go back to GE, and they had a kind of unofficial cooperation. Ed can say what a PM can’t.
