I’m sure you do know it was a protest against PE. I think if you had real conviction in your work & PE’s, you’d keep calm and carry on and not act like a snowflake over some hippies throwing some paint, no? If you or your others were targeted, I wouldn’t be making facetious remarks.

I get your points, but here’s my answer… Musk is irrelevant in the UK. Farage would like people to think otherwise. Both are attention-seekers. I don’t think we should talk about it at all — it’ll only give the UK far-right ideas and oxygen.
Alex Richards (@alxrchrds.bsky.social) reply parent
Clear and shameful media manipulation. You lot should know the UK economy is not in trouble, and why choose that image of Rachel Reeves?
Alex Richards (@alxrchrds.bsky.social)
Prime example of mainstream media manipulation from @the-independent.com The words and image combined are designed to convey angst and distrust. They may as well of simply posted ‘We don’t like Labour or having a female Chancellor’.

Alex Richards (@alxrchrds.bsky.social) reply parent
I quoted directly what you said — specifically referring to, “someone for ideas” here. Nobody was specifically targeted, PA offices were, and not for just ‘ideas’. I never called you a liar either. You claimed what I said was a lie.
Alex Richards (@alxrchrds.bsky.social) reply parent
I agree. It would be nice if the actual silent majority made some noise, to drown out the loud minority.
Alex Richards (@alxrchrds.bsky.social) reply parent
“None of this changes the fact that intimidating someone for their ideas is wrong, and legitimising that endangers everyone.” That is a nonsense statement. PE *office* was not targeted for that reason. You know that. I’m also still waiting for you to prove me wrong when you called me a liar.
Alex Richards (@alxrchrds.bsky.social) reply parent

I’m not so sure on either count — why then choose unpopular and ridiculous ‘policies’, and still not even bother with any details? I’d agree he wants power, but that’s different to the serious (and often boring) responsibilities of running the country.

It’s almost as if Farage doesn’t actually want to PM, but simply get headlines and notoriety for speaking engagements etc.

The ‘political climate’ would be far cooler if it wasn’t for the media, like ITV, and the Mail, and many others besides. Unfortunately, over the years, politicians and the media have developed a somewhat symbiotic relationship. I’m sure you know this. Judging by the replies, others do.
Alex Richards (@alxrchrds.bsky.social) reply parent
Exactly.
Alex Richards (@alxrchrds.bsky.social) reply parent
On the EU, him & Ed are aligned on that, and I wouldn’t be surprised if he would be happy to go into a coalition in order to achieve what they both really want. Going back to my theory of an unofficial cooperation, perhaps laying the groundwork for that.
Alex Richards (@alxrchrds.bsky.social) reply parent
He’s done the whole ‘I want to be straight with you’ and ‘build trust’ thing before, and doubt he’s changed his mind. I think (maybe it’s hope) that we’ll start to see Labour’s push-back when Parliament is back. Farage sees the Summer recess as an opportunity to take the headlines & cause trouble.
Alex Richards (@alxrchrds.bsky.social) reply parent
That said, I do think — and certain Labour do too — that they have to find a robust way of tackling problems like Farage and the media narratives. They can’t not. It’ll almost certainly be different to Ed’s approach.
Alex Richards (@alxrchrds.bsky.social) reply parent
Thought this too, but then I wondered why, why Ed is taking the lead. Might be wrong but here’s my thinking… As PM, he doesn’t want to seem like he or Labour (Gov) are trying to coerce the media. Go back to GE, and they had a kind of unofficial cooperation. Ed can say what a PM can’t.
Alex Richards (@alxrchrds.bsky.social)
How the British media views the ‘anti-immigration protestors’ (racists), and the ‘counter protestors’ (anti-racists). Taken today in Oldham, for reference.
Alex Richards (@alxrchrds.bsky.social) reply parent
I’m Labour, and I do think the party as whole needs to up their game and put Farage back in his place — the fringes of the fringes of politics. At the moment, he’s swanning around almost as if he’s just won an election, whilst also causing havoc on the streets, and the media are lapping it up.

Does this partly explain Reform’s polling? Their supporters seem to be quite ‘engaged’, for want of a better word. I think it’s fair to say they are not the silent majority, judging by their… activities! They are made out to be of greater size than they are by the media too. Inflated, basically.

Alex Richards (@alxrchrds.bsky.social) reply parent
You're serious aren't you? ‘Think tanks’ are a nonsense — vehicles of vested interests, and none of them for the British public. ‘Perfectly legitimate work’ is an opinion, and someone was harmed, it’s not violent either, though granted, it is criminal damage.
