I realize with time zones and everything it's difficult to schedule things for a normal time for everyone, but it would be great if east coast people didn't act like they're being so inconvenienced when things start early in the morning. Like, bro, seriously.
Whyyyyyyyy????? I purposely live in a place that doesn’t do this and all of a sudden the weather is all “Welcome to Florida! I hope you like sweat and deranged right wingers!”
It’s at least as good a strategy as playing Powerball.
New creative goal: somehow obtain a camera that can take pictures of spiders, specialize in spider photography, become rich and famous.
There a GIGANTIC orb weaver hanging down in the front yard. Like, almost tarantula sized. It’s super cool! Sadly, even at its size, I couldn’t get my phone camera or the “good” (it’s not good, it’s just not a phone) camera to focus on it. So you’ll just have to trust me that it’s cool!
Anyway, I highly recommend getting mad enough at baseball in general at the beginning of the season that you never really bond with your team so when they do whatever this is, you feel nothing. Or, is that a symptom of mental illness? Seems fine though actually.

Totally. And there are always bus driver shortages, so it’s not always a choice. But there are a lot of parents who simply don’t let their kids ride the bus. Sometimes for good reasons, but often, to me, it seems like a status symbol and kind of controlling.

Everything about parenting is dramatically more stressful, so of course kids going to school has become a statement about your entire parenting philosophy and if you do it wrong, you’re screwing your kids up for life. I really appreciate our urban school where everyone walks so we avoid this!

It’s also a weird feeling to read a book about people you know! I’ve gotten to know them because our kids have become really good friends, so it’s weird, but also a quick way to get someone’s backstory.
And obviously you all should read her book! It’s a 2025 Washington State Book Award finalist and I’m 100 pages in and love it.
I recently learned one of my neighbors is a writer and we had an absolutely giddy conversation about how fun it is to discover other writers and to talk about writing. She gave me a copy of her book and personalized the title page. It’s just so cool to know someone in real life who wrote a book!
Already dreaming of putting away the air conditioners. But that’ll be at least another month. Hopefully by Halloween!
The thing that’s getting me through today is the chance that after Friday, we may be done with 80+ degree temperatures for the year!

Junior Caminero making mincemeat of the Mariners is bad for my real baseball team, but extremely good for my fantasy baseball team that continues to be in first place no big deal.

I just got “m’amed” by the type of guy I would have been super into when I was like 25. We’re not so back, it turns out, just back. But I’ll take it.
From what I can tell the key is to haphazardly measure everything and get flour all over the kitchen, which is kind of my process anyway 😂
Also, I have obtained the epi pen. School is allowed to begin tomorrow. We’re so back!
Okay the muffins were incredible. Like, better than a batch I’ve ever made. A little humbling to be out baked by a couple of 9 year olds!

9 year old and her friend are making banana bread muffins. They do NOT want help. It’s adorable and I hope the muffins come out okay because from what I can overhear they are making some creative decisions 😂

I have successfully installed a doorknob. Please clap. I have done everything I can to get an Epi Pen. All I can do is wait. Wait, wait, wait. It's fine though because I'm very good at that. The best. Never any issues with waiting, nope, not me.

It's been extra fun because our regular pharmacy closed and the pharmacy they transferred everything to doesn't take our insurance, which I only found out because I called to ask when it would be filled because it had been a couple weeks. And then it was a long weekend! And now everyone's backed up!

Trying desperately to get an Epi Pen today so kiddo can go to school tomorrow (it’s been a saga, man!) and, at the same time, trying to figure out how to replace an exterior doorknob that doesn’t turn, which is problematic for both getting in and out. Summer break is going out in ✨chaos✨

One of the great pleasures in life is when everyone else leaves the house and you can listen to classical music really, really loud. The good, big, dramatic classical music. It’s so good.
Everyone is speculating about a Weekend at Bernie’s situation, but I bet it’s more like Paul is Dead. Someone should play the video the White House posted backward and see if it says “I buried Donald” or “the walrus is Donnie”
I’d say the next day is good. Also, as a raging introvert, I genuinely appreciate when the extroverts use their energy and introduce themselves!

Nothing will radicalize you like not having money and being surrounded by people with WAY too much of it.
Cleaning horse stalls, de-rocking pastures, and a bunch of other unfun things. Got paid in riding lessons. I also worked at horse shows and made $30 for braiding a mane and $50 for a tail, all under the table because there's nothing rich ass people like more than not paying taxes.

School starts on Wednesday and being with everyone at school the day after the election was actually a really special, community affirming moment, so what I'm saying is, today or tomorrow would very convenient for my schedule for a thing to happen.

You’re welcome! Soccer is weird in that they have a bunch of tournaments in addition to the league games.
Men will literally go after Obed Vargas instead of going to therapy.
It's a tournament between all the club teams in the US, Canada, and Mexico, so a club championship of North America.
(I don't count the US Open Cups because that's like winning a bowl game. Cool, but not a championship.)
The Sounders just tied the Storm for the most championships won by a Seattle sports team.
My 7 year old is at this game and ever since he was a little tiny kid he’s been obsessed with teams raising trophies when they win championships. It wasn’t so much the winning as the trophy raising. I’m just so happy he gets to see it in person. I’m more happy about that than the Sounders winning!

I enjoy soccer but I don’t know a ton about it. Which is fine because soccer is such a vibes game. You can just feel what’s going on, you don’t have to know technical stuff. All to say, I really dislike Inter Miami’s vibes. They are not enjoyable to me.

In My Life. I started singing it to kid #1 when she’d cry all night and it never failed to calm her down. Did the same with kid #2, and they both requested it frequently as they for a bedtime song. It’s an intensely emotional song for me because of that. Getting a little teary thinking about it 🥺

I've only been to New Hampshire twice, with a friend who was getting a tattoo and to buy beer on Sunday, both of which you couldn't do in Massachusetts then. So I think of New Hampshire as being like a puritan Las Vegas but with more cows.
John, I just watched all 5 games of the 2001 ALCS and it was staggering how different games are just from then, which was basically like 7 years ago.
I know they said it wasn't targeted, but I can't help but picture someone speeding down a New Hampshire highway toward his car at a high rate of speed yelling "Live free or die, motherfucker!"
After the Mariners won they gained a half game, then the Astros lost and the Mariner gained another half game.

Nope, it doesn’t matter who it’s against, it’s just wins and losses. But when they play each other, each team will have an opposite outcome so it’s automatically going to be a 1-game change.
