Don’t know who made this but thank you

Baudrillard’s 4 stages of simulacra applied to pumpkin spice Stage one (next to picture of pumpkin): Initially the sign (image or representation) is a reflection of basic reality Stage two (next to picture of pumpkin pie): the sign masks a basic reality. The image becomes a distortion of reality Stage three (next to Starbucks pumpkin spice latte): the sign marks the absence of basic reality. The image calls into question what the reality is and if it even exists Stage four (next to jug of pumpkin spice flavored coffee mate): the sign bears no relation to any reality whatsoever; it is it’s own pure simulacrum

It's awful, but as I'm sure you agree the writing has been on the wall for years. This wasn't the only reason I made a career shift (within journalism) around 7-8 years ago, but realizing I was in a field where maybe five dozen people were being paid a salary was pretty harsh.

Undervalued point! I was bored one day, decades ago, in a rented summer house. I was about 12. I had read most of the mysteries and "sexy" '70s bestsellers, so I picked up a paperback with an oddly dark cover and small type but an intriguing title: Crime and Punishment. I was up literally all night.

AI is a tool (sorry!) that people who are bad at their jobs will use badly and that people who are good at their jobs will maybe, possibly find some uses for. People who are terrible at their jobs (many executives), will tell their employees that they “need” to use AI, that their jobs depend on it, that they must become more productive, and that becoming an AI-first company is the strategy that will save them from the old failed strategy, which itself was the new strategy after other failed business models. The only journalism business strategy that works, and that will ever work in a sustainable way, is if you create something of value that people (human beings, not bots) want to read or watch or listen to, and that they cannot find anywhere else.

I've admittedly followed this from across the pond and I never thought Starmer was a lefty -- but he was in fkg Corbyn's shadow cabinet and now he's fkg turned into Bill Clinton, without the charm or conviction

Yes. That night was one of the last long conversations I had with my mother, a 1940s Red, who was then 97 and very close to the end. She was tremendously excited and stayed up way past bedtime, even though she had to turn the TV sound all the way up. I'm thinking a lot about her today.

Wow, I have to say this warms my cold, dark heart. Thank you! That review briefly made me famous after Rush Limbaugh (may the Lord have mercy etc.) read the *entire thing* live on the air, although he had to explain to his audience who Leni Riefenstahl was. I shoulda sent him chocolates.

Socialism is what they called public power. Socialism is what they called social security. Socialism is what they called the growth of free and independent labor organizations. Socialism is their name for almost anything that helps all the people. —Harry Truman, 1952

and as usual they're just pulling this stuff out of their tightly constricted butts. While NYC's population is exceptionally diverse and dynamic, and always changing, in broad strokes the balance between white, Black, Hispanic and Asian residents hasn't changed much in recent decades.

I'd started to believe Mamdani was likely to win — but not like this! For me, this illustrates how powerless the mainstream media and Democratic "establishment" have become: They fought like hell to save Cuomo's bacon over the last two or three weeks, and if anything they sank him for good.

Hi, this is Meg Barnette, Brad's wife. While escorting a defendant out of immigration court at 26 Federal Plaza, Brad was taken by masked agents and detained by ICE. This is still developing, and our team is monitoring the situation closely.

I know things are deeply dark and grim, but I'll say this again: "Thank you for your attention to this matter!" will never stop being funny. It's like the letter you get from the credit union when you're 3 days late on this month's car payment.

Honestly, I view the *absence of grammar and syntax errors* as a likely tell for AI submissions, in an already suspicious context. There are others, even as the bots grow "smarter," but certain kinds of errors are distinctive to almost every human author, and machines don't make them
