I was deeply honoured when Jim provided a quote for the new book - it's not appropriate to share here. He features heavily, including the very last image. I'll share this though - a stunning shot of Earth and the Moon, taken by Jim during Gemini VII - it adorns the rear jacket.
Apollo 13 needs few words. Perhaps the greatest story of triumph over adversity ever told. Jim was Commander. Seen here, freezing and exhausted on the way home. We've lost a true legend. Rest in peace, Captain Lovell. Ad astra, safe travels, "See you on the other side."
Jim then became one of the first three humans to leave Earth entirely, and fly to the Moon, on Apollo 8. Sadly, the whole crew has now left us. Here he is, on board the Command Module, in December 1968. 5/6
I was saving this for the new book, but seems appropriate here. Jim went on to fly to the Moon twice, but never walked on its surface. The Gemini XII EVAs were the only time he was exposed to the vacuum of space, and, recovered from underexposed film, this the only photograph 4/6
Jim then flew as Command Pilot of Gemini XII with Buzz Aldrin. He's seen here, cool as you like, gazing out of the window into the heavens on Nov 12, 1966. After this mission, Jim was the most traveled man 'on' Earth, until 1973. 3/6
Gemini VII conducted the world's first rendezvous in space, with Gemini VI-A. It also held the longevity record, at almost 2 weeks, and traveled an astonishing 4.88 million nautical miles. Jim is seen here through the window during the rendezvous, Dec 15, 1965. 2/6

TODAY! 🚀In 1971, Apollo 15 landed in the most spectacular location. Incredibly, from lunar orbit, Al Worden captured the rover and LM on the lunar surface, in which his crewmates were sleeping. Now enhanced, it gives us a great perspective of the Hadley-Apennine landing site:

Apparently the guy far right was a truck driver who joined the photographers out of curiosity. The photo (NASA / US Army) is in 'The Birth Of Space Photography' chapter of #GeminiAndMercuryRemastered. To think of all the historic launches that followed, and continue today... 2/2
TODAY is the 75th anniversary of the first ever rocket launch from Cape Canaveral!🚀 Seen here on July 24, 1950, Bumper 8 was based on a German V-2 missile. Less than 400ft away, the photographers were knocked to the ground - well they'd never witnessed a rocket launch before... 1/2
