If you want a sense of the millions of dollars LAPD, LASD and others cost taxpayers for assaulting journalists, I put this tab in my tracking spreadsheet that breaks down all the lawsuits I'm aware of. It really adds up. They never learn. Maybe because officers are never held personally accountable.
There are 5 lawsuits by journalists against City of Los Angeles for LAPD's press rights abuses from 2020-2022. This is first to settle. Others involve serious injuries, so I'd imagine bigger payouts. This all comes out of taxpayer pockets. I'm unaware of any officers ever held accountable.
This is basically right. The dividing line amongst Repubs was the racism (or at least those tolerant of being in the same party as racists). After 2016, the more educated, Bulwark type R’s were no longer able to hold their noses and deny the racism so clearly in front of them, and fled the party.
