This Labor Day, California honors the hardworking individuals, who are the foundation of our state. At a time when workers across the country are under attack by the federal government, California continues to fight for the rights of all workers.
One of my favorite events every year - my annual Youth Town Hall. It’s so important to give youth a space of their own to participate in their democracy and ask questions both of me, and of each other. Grateful to everyone who came out to participate in this youth-led conversation!
This morning I had the chance to speak to Chris Jansing of MSNBC about California’s plan to give voters the power to push back on Trump and Republicans steamrolling of our democracy across the country.
This is an existential threat, and it’s time for California to fight back.
Today, CA Democrats introduced the Election Rigging Response Act – CA’s response to Donald Trump & Texas Republicans' attempt to rig our democracy & disenfranchise voters. We didn’t choose this fight. We don’t want this fight. But with our democracy on the line, we cannot run away from this fight.

The Republican war on immigrants continues. Your ability to be a citizen of the country you were born in should not be up to chance. It’s a right. This decision by the court is in no way equitable nor just, & will have severe repercussions for the rule of law & many communities across the nation.

World leaders and allies don’t respect Trump. Ukraine launches a huge attack in Russia, but doesn’t give Trump a heads up. Israel launches a massive attack on Iran, but doesn’t give Trump a heads up. This would’ve been unthinkable from allies in prior administrations, but no one respects Trump.

I am honored to recognize the Legal Aid Society of San Mateo County as AD 23’s Nonprofit of the Year. At a time when both marginalized communities and the legal profession are under attack, legal aid clinics are a shining light, ensuring everyone has access to zealous representation.
I secured $8 million to help acquire the land from Peninsula Open Space Trust and I’m excited for more of it to open to the public in the future!

After the coffee I got a chance to tour the Big Wave campus near the harbor, which is going to be an amazing community for adults with special needs as well as the entire Coastside community. Future residents were allowed to write notes on the beams in their rooms, and the views are 🤩

This morning I joined Librarian Heidi for a special storytime to celebrate National Library Week! We sang songs, danced, and I got to read Stanley’s Library, a book that celebrates the magic of libraries, to a packed room of happy and excited kids!
Missy Maven joined me in Sacramento this week! She stopped by the office to hang out with Team Berman, advocated for my bill to shut down the puppy mill pipeline for good, got out the zoomies on the 8th floor, and by last night she was very happy to be home cuddling with her mom!

Bad actors are getting around California's ban on puppy mills by claiming to be local breeders, when in reality they're buying abused and neglected puppies from cruel out-of-state breeding operations and selling them to unsuspecting pet parents. #AB519 will crack down on this practice.
President Trump flagrantly violated the Constitution multiple times in the last two weeks, threatening Californians from all regions and all political parties. I was proud to support our efforts to give more money to the DOJ and to local legal service providers to protect *all* Californians.

Today marks two years since the horrific mass shooting in Half Moon Bay where seven people were senselessly killed. On the anniversary of this tragedy, my heart goes out to loved ones of those who were lost that day. They are not forgotten. 1/3
While I am disappointed with the election results, I am glad to see a peaceful transition of power today. This is the foundation of our democracy. It stands in stark contrast to the violent mob that attacked the Capitol four years ago. We must never forget that dark stain in our nation's history.
