Today, September 2, is the birthday of Mari Lee Scott. He died at 5 in a 2024 accidental shooting in Independence, Missouri. Mari was smart…playfully labeled “diabolically smart” by a teacher impressed by his surprising ability to figure things out.

Today, August 28, is the birthday of Joshua Hinojosa. He died in the 2008 Atlantis Plastics attack in Henderson, Kentucky, at just 25. A machine operator at Atlantis and a member of his local Catholic church, Josh was taken from his parents, 2 sisters and 2 brothers.
August 28th is the birthday of Tasha Marie Shepard. She died at 37, killed at a Tulsa bus stop in October 2024. Although Tasha faced struggles in life, she clearly did her best to maintain a positive attitude and persevere. Additional details about her life and personality were not available.

Trump is worried he’s going to lose in 2026. So to shield himself from the voters, he told Texas Republicans to redraw our state’s political maps — in the middle of the decade — to manufacture 5 new seats and protect their majority in Congress. It’s cheating. Plain and simple.
But to pass these new maps, a certain number of legislators need to be on the floor to conduct business — a quorum. My Democratic colleagues and I are not giving them one. If they’re going to cheat, we’re not going to play.
My Democratic colleagues and I just left the state of Texas to break quorum and stop Trump’s redistricting power grab. Trump is trying to rig the midterm elections right before our eyes. But first he’ll have to come through us. It’s time to fight back.
