I listened to the rest of the forum, I didn't take great notes, so I can't share much, but I've only doubled down on my support for @omarfatehmn.com @dewayneforminneapolis.com and Jazz Hampton for Minneapolis Mayor! Pictured: an MPS kid for a new mayor!
Fateh, Davis and Hampton all support free Metro Transit bus passes for ALL MPS HS students! Heck yes. Give our kids access to transportation, boost bus and light rail ridership, win win all around. I was a middle school secretary, coordinating rides for young people needs to be easier!
Sen @omarfatehmn.com vows to show up at the State Legislature to fight for our city and our city's public schools. Says he sees other mayors coming to the Legislature to advocate for their city, our current mayor isn't doing enough.
Listening to the Minneapolis Federation of Educators Mayoral Forum. MFE59 represents almost 5,000 educators. Mayor Frey isn't here because of a miscommunication issue, but I'm excited to hear from Omar Fateh, Dewayne Davis and Jazz Hampton about how they will support our students and educators.

I got a $50 charge for my kid's last well child visit, which is supposed to be covered by United Healthcare. The bill is really vague and lists a bunch of preventative procedures (eye check, hearing test) but says those are all paid for. Insurance is the worst.

If you truly cared about protecting students, educators and schools, you would FUND US! Fully fund schools so we don't have to cut staff EVERY YEAR. And if you really cared about kid's safety, you'd outlaw the guns. It's the fucking guns.
This country's response to tragedy is always just to send in more guns. We need extremely well funded schools and healthcare for everyone and good jobs. But sure, I'll be so relieved to see armed strangers, who don't know and love Minneapolis, taking over the city for our "protection."

I'm certainly no expert, but I cannot see any world in which stripping the DFL endorsement from a man of Somali heritage, who has gone to the mat and WON powerful policy for all Minnesotans but particularly the Somali/East African community, redounds positively on Jacob Frey or the DFL as a whole.
Absolutely enraging to me that instead of fighting fascism, the centrist wing of the local DFL is using its time and energy to fight left-wing Democrats.
Would be a huge 🖕 to the diverse coalition of young people who organized for this at the grassroots level. And reinforcing that politics is no longer about the People. But about who has the most money to throw around and get their desired outcome.
Tour de Minneapolis Parks continues!! We rode to Powderhorn Park and Sheridan Memorial Park yesterday. It was a great day for bike riding (minus the reckless drivers, sometimes I feel like a bad parent for bringing my kid out.)
sometimes i am startled by the memory that someone who i know, who was loved by people i love, was assassinated in her own home just a few months ago she won’t be in her office next session. she won’t be on the dais. she is gone, and so is her husband Mark, and their dog the GOP didn’t even care
They also sold us a heavy duty lock that has a holder on the bike. I bring an extra lock when I lock it up out of sight for a long time.
We have a Yuba Kombi with a long tail! It has a kid seat on the back for our 6 year old or bags of groceries, mulch, whatever! We bought it from Perennial and highly recommend them. They were so helpful and let us test ride a few bikes, and they're great when we go in for repairs.

To clarify, this was outside the event zone, but *just* outside. Maybe the cops were only there to control traffic going into the event. But apparently they didn't do a great job there bc a few cop cars rolled through there too fast for comfort.
That being said, the event itself was fun and Minneapolis is a great city filled with amazing people. I wish we could just divert big chunks of that Mpls Police Department money to housing, schools, transit and people who care about this city.
I've worked several customer/public facing jobs for a lot less than an MPD officer makes and if I was standing around on my phone this much I'd be fired. How does Minneapolis PD keep getting raises while so blatantly ignoring the people they "protect?" #MinneapolisPolice
The whole idea of Open Streets is kinda blemished by MPD Traffic Control sitting on their phones while countless drivers roll through this crosswalk. This is just the 1 light cycle I recorded, but I watched about 3 dozen cars cut off pedestrians while I ate my lunch on this corner.

There is, I've taken it a few times. But it's only "convenient" and affordable if you're very flexible. I'm an ESP and have summers off, so I can vacation on weekdays. I've looked at it for weekend trips and it would be expensive and for a 3 day trip & I'd only get like 36 hours in Milwaukee.
Every time I drive from Mpls to Milwaukee (2-4 times a year) I get so mad at Scott Walker 🤬🤬🤬
Absolutely! The seats are comfy and it's good for a leisurely vacation. Prices can be decent if you plan ahead or can travel on off-days. We got $40 tickets (each way, $20 for our kid) to Chicago, but we went Tues-Sat. Sunday tickets were $100 each! So it's convenient if you're super flexible 🙃
We've taken the Amtrak Borealis line and it's pretty affordable! But it takes a looong time, so it's not good for a quick weekend trip. It is sold out every time we ride. The people want trains!!

I used to have this commute, and that hill is brutal. I often felt unsafe going down so fast. Once had a driver close pass me and then tell at me to get in the bike lane (there's no bike lane on 50th) 🙃 There's a big gap of safe bike streets going east-west between the Parkway and Greenway

At a Ward 12 Public Safety Meeting and my Council Member @aurinmpls.bsky.social just gave an amazing answer about traffic safety/traffic calming! I can't paraphrase well, but I will say that we are incredibly lucky to have CM Chowdhury fighting for our safety here.

I'm in! I was in her commercial last year and she asked me about my work with MPS and talked about how important SPED is and also chatted about being a parent. I want her to stay. I don't stan many politicians, but she's one I'll always back up.

Mpls has amazing parks and trails. As an MPS employee, I'm lucky to get a few months off and I'm soaking up the city as much as possible. I've lived here almost 20 years now, and I love this city and the ppl here so much.

Our e-bike takes us all over! Neighborhood garage sales, grocery run, library visits, etc. Now Mpls just needs more protected lanes (really hate biking with my kid on Minnehaha, right in the door zone) and bike racks!

The Lunds on Cedar has similar, stupid bike racks and I bike right onto the sidewalk on Cedar when I turn off the parkway bc biking on Cedar is terrifying. I can't believe that Mpls is the best ranked biking city. How bad is it everywhere else?!?
Just gonna put this out there: We are ALL pedestrians. If you drive, you also have to walk to your destination. Usually across a busy street, and that crossing should be safe . That I am typing that feels ridiculous. But yes, car driver, you too are a pedestrian, in that "very small minority".
