Btw very important to say that the FCC has not at all said what Kimmel said that was so objectionable! This is classic chilling effect - there are no rules so everyone stops talking www.theverge.com/news/780471/...

Disney and ABC have pulled Jimmy Kimmel Live! off air “indefinitely” after FCC chairman Brendan Carr threatened to pull the broadcast licenses of any station that aired his show over comments Kimmel made about the man charged with killing Charlie Kirk. The decision, according to Variety, was made after television giant Nexstar announced that its local ABC affiliates would pre-empt airings of Jimmy Kimmel Live!, just hours after Carr issued that threat. Nexstar is one of the biggest owners of television stations across the country. We’ve reached out to the FCC for comment on what specifically is objectionable from Kimmel’s show and which FCC regulations he may have violated.

This gets progressively funnier with every use of the term "floppy".

One of Britain’s most senior police officers has launched an angry tirade against Extinction Rebellion protesters going “all floppy” when they get arrested. Sir Stephen House, the deputy commissioner of the Metropolitan police, said the tactic of going limp was a “flipping nuisance” as it required extra officers to drag protesters away. House told a London assembly police and crime committee hearing: “We have asked them to stop being floppy. And that might seem like a silly thing to say, but when we arrest them and pick them up, they go all floppy, which is why you see four or five officers carrying them away. It’s a complete waste of officers’ time, and a complete pain in the neck.” Extinction Rebellion: how successful were the latest protests? Read more House also expressed annoyance at how the tactic made the police look heavy-handed. He said: “The problem with them going floppy and four offices carrying them away [is that it] looks to the general public like police are overreacting here. We’re not making them go floppy. They’re just sort of being a nuisance.”

Kavanaugh's statements make the problem worse, not better. If the reason SCOTUS is using cryptic shadow docket orders is because "five" of them can't "reach a consensus or a compromise on a particular issue that might be difficult," then that order should not be precedential —there's no majority.

wow thank you hero of "little tech." why has no one ever though to use ubiquitous surveillance to "fight crime." what could go wrong? if you're innocent you have nothing to worry about (which he also says)

Garry Tan (@garrytan) posts on Sep 3: “Flock Safety currently solves 700,000 reported cases of crime per year, which is about 10% of reported crime nationwide. And they're just getting started.” The tweet includes a retweet of Ilya Sukhar (@ilyasu) who wrote “It’s happening” with a Forbes article preview. The preview shows a man crouching behind a large drone with the headline: “AI Startup Flock Thinks It Can Eliminate All Crime In America.” Jordan (@neurajordan) replies: “this is pretty dystopian man, idk” at 2:08 PM on Sep 3, 2025, with 15.1K views, 729 likes, and 5 bookmarks. Garry Tan responds: “You're thinking Chinese surveillance. US-based surveillance helps victims and prevents more victims.” Jordan (@neurajordan) posts on Sep 3: “this is pretty dystopian man, idk.” Garry Tan (@garrytan) replies: “You're thinking Chinese surveillance. records and books, which are mostly what I ever buy from overseas, are supposed to be exempt from the new tariffs, but my Autechre pre-order is being delayed anyway. I'll live

a good starting point is Omnium Gatherum because that album spans lots of genres. otherwise they have the metal albums, the classic rock albums, etc
