My white grandfather was threatened by the Oregon KKK in the 1930s for marrying my white Catholic grandmother (darn papist!). The entire PNW has been a sanctuary for violent White Power organizations since the KKK had to regroup after the passing of the Ku Klux Klan laws.
Not one bit surprising when you finally learn that Oregon was FOUNDED as a WHITE SEPARATIST state, and that that was written into the state constitution until 1927. Another fun fact: Oregon historically has had the second-highest per-capita KKK membership rate in the nation; second only to Indiana.

When President Johnson activated the Nat'l Guard in Alabama in 1965 over Gov. Wallace's objection he did it to protect protesters advocating for voting rights for Black people who had previously met violence at the hands of state troopers. Very different situation.
Everything that’s happened over the past six months has been a response to an imaginary crisis. There is no immigrant invasion. No trade crisis. No scientific or governance crisis. Just people completely high off their own supply trying to fundamentally reorder society. None of this had to happen.
Trump can’t stand to be humiliated. This is what's driving his dictatorial moves. But he will overreach. He already has. And this overreach will ultimately be his undoing. As long as we keep our heads — and engage in peaceful civil disobedience. Be strong. Be safe.
