People are happier being lied to rather than having their world changed--or to put any work into maintaining it. COVID proved that.

Fun side note: I think that's the same arena Stars on Ice would finish off their season, and they traditionally set off fireworks at the end of the last show. It's done in honor of the first season, when a transformer blew and sent sparks flying around. The crowd cheered, thinking it WAS fireworks.

My goal growing up was to be Union--any union. My grandfather was in Operating Engineers Local 324, my mother was in UFCW 951, and finally, in my late 40s, I finally got the opportunity to join SAG-AFTRA @sagaftra.org. I haven't worked since 2013, but am proud to have been given that opportunity.

Grok is on X. And Grok is laying down any and every excuse as a possibility why there's a one-block police barricade around the White House, including... get this... the ballroom renovations are supposed to start today. On Labor Day. Yea, sure.
Bix (@bixiecup.bsky.social)
Get this: Elon Musk's Grok has already been programmed to lay down excuses about what's going on in Washington, D.C. There's a one-block police presence all around the White House because... get this... the ballroom renovations are beginning. Seriously.

We gave up on trying to protect ourselves--that's the problem. The prevailing attitude in this country is, "Nobody tells ME what to do! I'm an American!" We operated out of resentment in 2019/2020 because we had to change our habits. "Change" scares people. People shy away from what scares them.

Oh, no, now I can believe the U.S. took in $8T in tariff revenue... while losing at least $80T in revenue from tourism, alcohol sales, soybean and corn sales etc. But they don't tell us that part.

My maternal great-grandfathers were both born in Canada. One became a naturalized citizen, and would always proudly pull out his paperwork to show his citizenship status. The other stayed a Canadian citizen and lived in the U.S., but he could never leave out of fear he wouldn't be allowed back.

I bought a new Chevy S10 truck in 2003, as a result of that one major purchase, I've been in debt for 22 years. Medical issues, life circumstances, "moving to where the jobs are" (and having to start all over again) have all added to my financial situation. Now I have to care for an elderly parent.
Bix (@bixiecup.bsky.social)
Gen X here... I saw the economic landscape changing within my parent's time. When they looked to buy a house and move out of government-subsidized townhouses, they couldn't afford it on their regular-job salaries. After college (1992), my first job was as a McDonald's fry girl. So I joined the USN.

I still blame Robert Mueller for Trump getting into office. He knew what was going on but kept things quiet and was relying on others to "enforce the rules" rather than step up to do it himself. This is the man that could've saved America.
