I actually *don't* think that's true — or rather than the detention increase is happening already and won't be directly linked to this. There are already millions of people on ICE's radar that they could detain and are not detaining now because of lack of capacity. This adds millions more.
Making matters worse, because of restrictions on appealing decisions of the Board of Immigration Appeals in bond cases, it may take years before any challenges to this decision can be heard on direct appeal. It may take individual or class action habeas lawsuits to fight this.
The upshot of this decision is that garden variety undocumented immigrants living here for decades without any criminal history will now be barred from asking an immigration to release them on bond. ONLY visa overstays and people with legal status will be eligible for bond.

OpenAI can absolutely run out of money, because it burns billions of dollars a year. The true cost of this company is over $80 billion a year across venture capital to sustain its burnrate and the capital expenditures to keep it scaling. Eventually somebody chokes and can’t sustain the capital.
Every GPU installed in the USA that wasn‘t put there by a hyperscaler has been bought using debt, some of it collateralized by the same GPUs. It will, at best, take 3 years of 80%+ utilization to turn profitable, and that would be if they didn’t have billions in debt and constant scaling issues.
My prevailing suspicion right now is that the majority of *all* AI compute demand, worldwide, is Microsoft, Amazon, and Google (at a stretch), with most of that going toward either OpenAI or Anthropic. I do not think robust demand exists outside these two companies. If I am right that is very bad.
