Funny enough, I worked on the design of Windscale pond 5 back in the 70s as a junior draughtsman. It was OK when I left it 😜. I think nuclear has a place in the short term until renewables take over. It's a necessary evil. UK has dithered about renewables for too long.

What's the alternative? Kick it down the road? Import energy? UK has lost the expertise in nuclear, so the first new one will be expensive due to a need for technology transfer. In France they kept their industry going and now have very cheap electricity, and expertise.

All of the solutions to the problems are really simple. Global Warming, build Solar/Wind Energy which is 8x cheaper. Housing, build Social Housing. Immigration, stop bombing 3rd world countries, aid them instead. They just don't want to do them so they call them complex.
