I too read this idiotic article. There is such a thing as free speech and hate speech. Waleed does not appear to distinguish between the two. Hate speech causes harm to others i.e. racial slurs, misogyny. You can be intolerant of the latter while still supporting free speech.

I do not think politicians and the media realise the damage they are doing to their own reputation and credibility. The public can see the disconnect between the images on TV and Internet of Palestinians killed and the language of politicians and the media elites who seek to change the subject.

I suggest a list of collaborators is compiled for when Trump loses power. People should be named and shamed. When Trump loses power, those on the list should suffer consequences - perhaps even deportation.
CEO pay should be capped at 10 times their lowest paid worker. Politicians pay should be tied to a multiplier of their constituents average wage. Billionaires should face a wealth tax after earning 1000 times the world's average wage. Rules would create incentives to raise other's living standards.
The issue is incentives. Markets are efficient but rules need to create the outcomes we desire, namely wage growth, and an unpolluted world.
The big question is what will be the effect on bond markets once this bill passes? US debt is already dangerously high.
What are chances the bond market will tank after the passing of this bill? Surely US credit worthiness is at risk...

The problem is Australia doesn't provide steady incomes for researchers or Phds. Why would they come here? In Australia, research is often tied to temporary grant money and people with PHDs are often paid less than median wage.

The Greens will have an interesting decision to make on Labor housing legislation. Personally I think they should hold out for a cap of 10 houses for negative gearing. Make Labor defend why a person with 10 houses should get a tax write off.
As a normal Labor, it disgusts me that Albanese can criticise any party for politicising Gaza. People there are being bombed indiscriminately and he and Wong personally lacks the moral courage to say anything negative about Israel's government.

I'm happy Labor won. But they have yet to show any courage. They didn't show courage to call out Israel over Gaza. Nor the courage to get rid of negative gearing. Until negative gearing is curtailed, first home buyers won't be able to buy a home.
I am worried that Labor won't be courageous in their second term - just content with the status quo. This election they were helped by an inept coalition campaign.
