While media can be majority owned by billionaires, we are all at risk. Australia needs to put in place laws to prevent billionaire majority ownership of media organisations.

I too read this idiotic article. There is such a thing as free speech and hate speech. Waleed does not appear to distinguish between the two. Hate speech causes harm to others i.e. racial slurs, misogyny. You can be intolerant of the latter while still supporting free speech.

Why can't journalists get a politician to actually answer a damn question? Albanese knows very well that the public are asking for across the board sanctions on Israel and he obfuscated. www.abc.net.au/news/2025-08...

Such a boring interview. Penny Wong just sat there, and stone walled every question. Why did she even bother being interviewed? And why was she not asked if Australia would fully sanction Israel in line with the motion passed at State Conference. Bring back Kerry O'brien.
Brad N (@bniel.bsky.social) reply parent
Sanctions need to be next. Israel doesn't care about Palestinian recognition but they will care about sanctions. Time to eject the Israeli ambassador as well.

I've decided it's safer not having money in the market until the Trump has done with smashing everything. 50% on Brazil, 30% on Canada, what next for Australia? What a loon! The markets will catch up eventually once the bad economic figures come in.

I do not think politicians and the media realise the damage they are doing to their own reputation and credibility. The public can see the disconnect between the images on TV and Internet of Palestinians killed and the language of politicians and the media elites who seek to change the subject.
Brad N (@bniel.bsky.social) reply parent
You would think so but that would require the courage to do what is right. I have yet to see any from Labor.
Brad N (@bniel.bsky.social) reply parent
I suggest a list of collaborators is compiled for when Trump loses power. People should be named and shamed. When Trump loses power, those on the list should suffer consequences - perhaps even deportation.

CEO pay should be capped at 10 times their lowest paid worker. Politicians pay should be tied to a multiplier of their constituents average wage. Billionaires should face a wealth tax after earning 1000 times the world's average wage. Rules would create incentives to raise other's living standards.
Brad N (@bniel.bsky.social) reply parent
The issue is incentives. Markets are efficient but rules need to create the outcomes we desire, namely wage growth, and an unpolluted world.

The Greens will have an interesting decision to make on Labor housing legislation. Personally I think they should hold out for a cap of 10 houses for negative gearing. Make Labor defend why a person with 10 houses should get a tax write off.
Brad N (@bniel.bsky.social) reply parent
As a normal Labor, it disgusts me that Albanese can criticise any party for politicising Gaza. People there are being bombed indiscriminately and he and Wong personally lacks the moral courage to say anything negative about Israel's government.
Brad N (@bniel.bsky.social) reply parent
People are reading this wrong. The Liberals ran a rubbish campaign based on nuclear power and anti-wokeism. Their normal voters voted Labor in such numbers that a few Green lost their seats. But the Greens still have the Senate.
Brad N (@bniel.bsky.social) reply parent
I think 12% is pretty good actually. I mean they haven't dwindled like the Australian Democrats. In this election, they suffered simply by conservative votes flowing to Labor.

Brad N (@bniel.bsky.social) reply parent
The problem as I see it, is that unless Labor has the courage to address rising inequality in Auatralia, right-wing populists with false promises can one day win power. Perhaps the liberals going hard right is of some concern...
Brad N (@bniel.bsky.social) reply parent
I'm happy Labor won. But they have yet to show any courage. They didn't show courage to call out Israel over Gaza. Nor the courage to get rid of negative gearing. Until negative gearing is curtailed, first home buyers won't be able to buy a home.
