And that's before we even get into the issues about energy and water use, and problems with data center placement in areas where they do harm to poor people. The ethical reasons are manifold and only grow worse rather than better with every year these products are available.

But your response highlights a big problem as well: the tools make it easy to be complicit in theft because they're so widespread and free to use. You claim innocence about not knowing that every use of "AI" steals from a lot of people. That's by design. But it's why you shouldn't use it, at all.

Training data is one big ethical problem with "AI". That's how it ends up being racist with things like facial identification (because most images online are white people and processing is poor on darker skin). See e.g. www.siam.org/publications...

Happy Labor Day! Today we're bringing you The First Union, as told by HBomberguy (@hbomberguy.bsky.social) and illustrated by Skutch (@skutchdraws.bsky.social) It's the dawn of the industrial revolution, and of the way many of us work... Have you ever heard of the term "Luddite" from an elder?

Stanhill, Lancashire, 1764. Wear and carpenter James Hargreaves invents the Spinning Jenny, the first practical spinning-frame, to make the tedious task of producing cloth a little bit faster. He doesn't know it yet, but this will destroy the world. Spurred by inventions like his, the industrial revolution will transform everything -- work power, the wealth of nations. Society as we know it began here, and it wasn't great for everyone. But a group of weavers and textile workers saw this future coming. And did their best to prevent it. Factory work paid little, since If you were living through it, opposing the industrial revolution wasn't techno-phobia. It was SELF-DEFENSE. The combination act forced unions underground into secret societies. And the greatest secret of all was their leader - Ned Ludd. Ned had been a folk character for years. In one version after being whipped by his master, he smashed two knitting frames in a rage. In more fanciful versions, he then escaped to the Sherwood forest, here he lived among the animals as their king. Some versions specifically call him 'Much Better Than Robin Hood'.

that's a major reason I think it must be a visitor. There aren't any garages here, and barely any off-street parking. With a vehicle as fragile as that (not to mention plenty of kids who might decide to express themselves), it's asking for trouble.

It’s Labor Day and can’t stop thinking about all the labor you put into us. I treated our relationship like just another job while you wanted it to be a lifelong career. Now I’ll never be able to see you go into labor to have our children. Solidarity for all the work you’ve done on yourself.

yeah I feel like someone bragging about servant leadership in an interview is an asshole ego-monster. If you really believe yourself to be a servant, you don't boast about it.

DS9 scene. Rom is a Ferengi hero who has a large bald head and giant ears and lobes that sort of connect to make a unibrow and a ribbed pine cone looking nose. He's wearing a jacket that looks like those lick and stick backsplash tiles you can get at Lowe's. He's pictured here standing in a corridor, talking to someone and holding/reading a PADD.
