Once more for those in the back -- FEMA's response was not perfect, but bridges and roads are still being repaired, houses anf businesses are still being rebuilt, and that debris removal was a lifeline. Imperfect or not, FEMA was here for us. This is not ok
If teaching online has taught me anything, it is the importance of giving feedback as a teaching act. Content delivery in a live setting can be fun, and leading an interactive discussion is a blast, but actually providing feedback to support and correct is essential to student learning.
Popular opinion about this cast has shifted... dramatically. Will Ferrell being the exception, I think.
Truly! This month, we learned that our house was renovated (before we bought it) without the installation of a ridge vent in our attic, so the hot air had no way to exit through the top. Guess where it went! That's right: into our house.
Interesting to see that so much of Appalachia experienced "record warmest" temps this July. It was very hot here in Boone.
This is embarrassing but Paris is farther north than Moosehead Lake. Also I forgot about our layover in Reykjavik, which is more than 1,000 miles farther north than both of those places.
Furthest I've been N: Moosehead Lake, ME E: Paris S: Punta Cana W: Fairplay, CO (technically Las Vegas but I never got off the plane) Lots more to explore, and some places that I'd really like to return to.

Spend more time in Jersey! I grew up on the Delaware River north of Trenton and it’s a beautiful place. Check out Lambertville and Frenchtown for staters. Great river towns with lots of character.
We visited Paris, Bordeaux, and Vannes on our trip a few years ago. Paris and Bordeaux were incredible as expected. But Vannes was my favorite of the three. The food, people, architecture, etc. were so unique and welcoming.
The Tour de France Femmes actually started in our favorite little city in Brittany this year. Plenty of fomo watching that start this weekend.

I really hope college professors posting about how students can't read anymore and who like to entirely blame K-12 education (or social media) read this thread and the links throughout. How to best teach reading is contested and political and... well, complex.

Update: We arrived mostly intact! Both kids are wearing the same clothes they were wearing when we left. Nobody is screaming. Everyone is fed. Took us about 5 hours including a two stops. Don’t have to do it again until Sunday. 😅
And today we take the car-averse 3-month-old on his longest car ride yet. The drive across NC to my in-laws takes about 4 hours. Ear plugs are at the ready. Prepare ship for Ludicrous Speed!

Sorry, I guess I had some thoughts on that.
Few "advancements" have had such a significant impact on the way faculty must adjust their teaching and course design. My guess would be this is the biggest since the advent of the internet (which was slightly before my time so I can't compare my own experience).
As someone who has been known to try new things in my classroom (and as someone with a degree in ed tech), I sympathize with the latter group, but I don't see AI as "just another" innovation or ed tech tool.
There are probably many who are taking that stance disingenuously or with the intention of using it as leverage. But I think there are others who see themselves as educational innovators, and see AI as just another innovation.
Oof. I hesitate to assume the intentions of higher ed faculty and staff writing pro-AI, but I admit my gut reaction is slightly similar to how I think I'd react to a snake oil salesperson.
