We FaceTimed with Adam today and he’s doing great, as is Ginger. There’s been a few fights between Ginger and Toque (roommate Ben’s cat) but as Adam puts it, “They weren’t too bad.”
A ton of people have been wondering if Bernoulli has been sad not having Ginger around. We haven’t noticed it BUT we have noticed him being more affectionate to Beaker and Bunsen.❤️

Kris had a cry driving to town in the car this morning.
He’s doing ok. He spent yesterday with Chesnyy after the move and is tired out today.

This week’s Pupdate is a very bittersweet one. Ginger moved out to live with Adam, our son, in Edmonton while he finishes his education. Ginger is Adam’s cat, but yes, the whole family loves her. Early reports are she is doing great, even if we all are not doing as well. Seasons Change.
It’s important to be bear aware, that’s for sure. The trail we were on in is a busy one and we were travelling in a larger group and making noise which lessens the chance of an encounter. The dogs remain on leash and under control on the hike as well.

Bunsen never gets into anything he shouldn’t. He did destroy one pillow and my strawberry plants in their planter when he was a puppy. Bernoulli has been more challenging with what he gets into but it has improved as he’s gotten older.
Part of his recovery was being on strict rest for at least a month. He’s a trooper and his favourite trick is down stay so the rest part wasn’t too difficult. Puppy Bernoulli wanted in there though. Hahaha
On this day, last year, Bunsen our beloved Bernese Mountain Dog survived surgery from what we would later find out was a life threatening 10 lb prototapeworm cyst. This is the story- as much as can be told in a short video.

Today, last year, Bunsen almost died. We reflect on that day, and share his story and thanks to the vet team that saved his life.

Bernoulli was swimming to get his duck and then he heard his mommy and that was the end of that.

This is our final update on Ginger maulings and canoodlings. Bernoulli has come so very, very far from a little naughty puppy to a giant lovable bear. Why is this the last update? Well we have been saying for months now that Ginger is moving out with Adam and that day is almost here.
Retrieve a stick? Nah, retrieve an entire tree.
Last year Jason got hit from behind in a car accident. Luckily everyone was mostly ok, including Beaker (dog) who was in the car with him. Jason said had been getting lazy and not clicking her in to secure her for trips. We did some research and found out three ways to help secure your pet.

Yep! Bernoulli is a BMD 😊 Beaker is a golden retriever.
The dogs get along very well. Beaker likes to take the toys away from the boys and Bunsen doesn’t care but Bernoulli will try and take it back. Beaker will bark at Bernoulli and he’s pretty chill but perseveres until he’s taken it back. We proactively feed them separately to avoid food issues.

Hi Mia! We use Ruffwear Float Coats. Bernoulli wears Bunsen’s old one as Bunsen doesn’t like going in water. It’s held up for 8+ years and has really good features like wrap around panels to help maintain a natural swimming position and a handle to grab to lift out of the water. Happy swimming!

Beaker is a strong swimmer but we have her in her life jacket too.
We use the life jacket for buoyancy in dock diving and in more open water like this. He had showed improvement in his swimming skills so doesn’t wear it at home on our creek walk or at the pond at doggie daycare.

Their role as working dogs for the Samoyede people speaks to their intelligence, versatility, and loyalty. While they may require some extra care due to their coat and health issues, the joy and companionship they bring to their owners make them a beloved breed worldwide.
Some issues though - Their thick double coat requires regular grooming to prevent matting and keep it clean and they need earily socialization to get along with other pets in your house.
Samoyeds are known for their friendly and gentle demeanor, making them great family pets. They are also pretty smart, and their fluffy, white coat keeps them warm in cold climates.
The Samoyed breed was developed over centuries by the Samoyede people, who carefully selected dogs for their ability to thrive in cold climates and work alongside humans. They were brave, could think independently, AND were SUPER friendly.
Also, their smile is a design feature - by not having a drooping mouth or downturned lips, icicles don't form drom drool. Their smile stays ICE FREE. AWWWWWW
The Samoyed breed originates from Siberia, where they were bred by the Samoyede people for herding reindeer, pulling sleds, and keeping their families warm in the harsh Arctic conditions. I mean who WOULDN'T hug these things?

Is there a version of you only your dog knows? I have one. It is a kinder person with my guard fully down.
That’s the same as our older Berner, Bunsen. He’s definitely not a fan of water. Although he went in a stream with all four paws this summer when we were hiking in the Kananaskis.
He’s a special case. 💕 We have a small pool of water on our property that the beaver we had dammed up and Bernoulli would go in as Beaker, our retriever, swam. Plus, he loves the pond at his doggie daycare. We put a life jacket on him to start and he only wears it dock diving now (for buoyancy).
