I think the one thing that I'm willing to give this whole thing credit for is that it's aware that it's for straight dudes.

Try fitted sheet clips (There's a wide variety. most of them are some sort of bungie attached to a clip so it makes putting on and taking off the fitted sheet a pain, but it does lock them into place)
I've had luck with those ... fitted sheet sock garter things that clip on the corners.

My personal variation on this is Les Miserables, where the character family trees are both simpler and complex than, say the musical, including cutting characters, and there's also major chapters that get cut because of reasons. Some very valid reasons depending on who you ask.
I really like this, especially when we talk about "does watching the movie/mini series/audio drama *count* as having read the book?" There are books that a visual adaptation isn't going to get the same feel and yes, you can *usually*understand the story, especially as it relates to the zeitgeist+
