French Revolution is a Vekoma coaster from the late 80's tucked back into one corner of the park. It has one loop that wraps around a pathway. Look at the track in that first picture. What even is that?? That's whack is what it is. Very much did not enjoy that ride experience. Will not be reriding.
So then it was time to try Comet Express. I remembered doing their underground coaster when I was last here, but not any details about it. Well, it turns out it's a powered spinning coaster. It's *very* long. Paced pretty well. I didn't spin too crazily until the very end, but then I SPUN.
Then I did this underground fantasy candy fever dream of a train ride. Very odd.
The ride itself is pretty fun. I fundamentally don't understand what they were trying to achieve with the Aquatrax concept as at no point does the ride experience resemble a flume ride at all. And I don't like how the back is higher so the heartlining is worse. Prefer it towards the front.

Super low stakes who-cares revelation, but: i just now learned that my family has been calling this rollercoaster the wrong name for its entire existence. It has consistently been called the "Rip-It Rock-it" (which is a better name, but still I am unmoored) from inception til closure

when i first found out my local library had movies, for some reason the first tape i picked was "Make Mine Milk" which is like "what if ZOOM was dairy industry propaganda?" years later we watched it at school and i was like "hey i've seen this!" and the other kids were like "who gives a shit."
And the funny thing is that these nostalgic depictions end up being the primary impression of the period for those too young to actually experience them. But that nostalgia is always centered on the experiences of the wealthy, never the poor. See also the 1910's infatuation with "plantation life".
It seems like everytime poc and other minorities start to find ways to express themselves and fight for equality/representation white people start longing for a time where they felt in control and disguise that fact by pining for simplicity in some form. It's not simplicity they want, it's dominance
The late 50s-early 60s were very nostalgic for the 1910s. You can see it in their media at the time. They were going through an industrial boom, and conservatives today claim it was a perfect decade, yet the people then longed for a simpler, slower time where few owned cars. Nothing has changed.
