Every morning I wake up and think “today’s the day I’ll read the news and not be disappointed in my city/province/continent”. Friend, I just want that day to come.
What we don’t need are personal vanity projects from some twit whose greatest business acumen is in making shady AF deals with governments to get below market rates to build offices in parks and bars in stadiums.
The idea that “anchor tenants bring in more businesses” has yet to prove out, at least in this city. Source: malls. What you NEED is reasonable/discount rent for local businesses, perhaps rent which rises based on revenues; let those businesses free up marketing dollars so they can stay put.
Wayfair at the very least.
REAL doesn’t just need anchor tenants. REAL needs anchor tenants to PAY THE FUCKING RENT. It’s not like Semple’s “group of businesses” can’t afford market rates. I’m beginning to think we should scrap REAL and start over.

This makes me really, really angry. Here we have many local businesses unable to find retail or hospitality space at reasonable rent, and the businesses struggle to survive, while a guy with more money than Caesar gets a prime location for his shite at bargain basement prices‽ what the fuck, YQR?
At this point it’s like they can’t find enough ways to spend taxpayers’ money so they must embrace the ridiculous because logic is gone.

I just tried to redownload it and it requires a credit card(‽) now so it’s off the list. Our libraries use Overdrive/Libby. I love Overdrive and I quite like Libby (for audiobooks). If my e-reader had Libby app, none of this would be an issue.

Many books published by the big four/five mass market publishers are discoverable, but they’re unusable on most non-phone/tablet, non-computer ereaders unless you have a PhD in unfuckery. (You may call me Doctor cenobyte.) People want to read. Make it easy.
The latter is seriously shitty, because Canadian publishers produce accessible ePub books simultaneously with print books (for most genres; there are exceptions). If those books aren’t being borrowed, libraries won’t buy them, and Canadian books lose out big time.
Kobo seriously needs to figure out how to work with Libby, or else libraries need to use a different app for ereaders, because this shit is NOT working. And I sort of assume it also infuriates librarians because they’ll have to either help patrons borrow digital books or just not circulate them well
It’s now too late for me to read, I’m too angry to sleep, and I’m still not sure these books have loaded properly. Which they seem to have. Except the formatting is shite, because the publisher sucks at producing accessible digital books. This is bullshit.
It’s no goddamned wonder the reader we got our parents is being used to dry paper towels. (Don’t ask.) Technology should make things easier, not infuriating.

Healthcare in BC is acres better than here. Source: in-laws live in BC and have had more than a year of serious medical stuff, no problems finding family doctors, excellent hospital care with low wait times… they’re in the interior, not in Vancouver. And not too remote. Probably worse there.

I will HAPPILY use Libby on my Kobo. I don’t fucking want to read books on my phone. Or my tablet. Or my computer. I have a fucking Kobo so that I don’t have to do that. Yes, I rant about this at least once a month. Maybe more. Because it’s so fucking stupid.
And the Overdrive app on my kobo is now not working at all. It was working on 1/20 of the books I could find, and now it’s not working at all. Still no Libby app on Kobo (likely because the Libby folks want you to use Libby, which is the customer facing app for Overdrive).
Today, just to read a fucking library book on my kobo, I had to deauthorise ADE, reauthorise ADE, download from Libby app to files in ADE format, open from files in ADE, WHICH IT WOULDN’T DO BECAUSE IT SAID IT HAD BEEN OPENED BY ANOTHER USER. The other user was me. I am the other user. Fuck this.
