Isn't a poi t against both those countries that they never had a history of democracy, though? Like I think most people in the US generally believe in democratic principles and that they have some say. That going away wouldn't sit well with 70% of the population, I'd say. But I'm an optimist.

Not necessarily. Her voice and advocacy matter in the face of the neighborhood NIMBYs and businesses that oppose bus lanes and things like the E Line center lane redesign in favor of parking (which I have already heard in Mission Hill) who will be talking to the MBTA in meetings.
