Honestly, I went back and saw some of Charlie's videos, and it really seems like the claims people make against him are misconstrued, like the "I can't stand empathy" and "gay people need to be stoned" claims. Still disagree with a lot of his views, but he's not as bad as I thought.

I'm trying to picture some old man in this situation who knows absolutely nothing about furries or anything, and he just casually asks, "Oh, hello, friend. Could you tell me where the restroom is?"
This is a big reason why I feel weird when people say, "We need to inextricably tie sex/porn to the furry community." Like, I get that it's a big thing for a lot of people, but there are still furry sub-communities that don't have an interest in sex/porn, for example.

I feel like a HUGE cause of this (that far too few people seem to point out) is that conservative-run news stations are singling out the few members who DO encourage violence or hurt other people rather than the peaceful majority, and thus many conservatives get taught to judge the whole party.

Interesting point. Although, how would they fix this? I mean, the obvious solution would be to hire actual people to moderate this, but would they be able to sift through every post? This is an actual question, since I'm not sure how many people post on Bsky (and how often) in a given time frame.

This is quite sloppy, but I had a lot of fun with it so I won't send it to the shadow realm with the rest of my studies..
Fortunately, there are indeed some churches that DO preach biblical love that crosses political boundaries (I'm blessed to go to one myself). Unfortunately, the ones that preach Christian Nationalism are so loud. I hope they're the vocal minority.
That's probably true in the vast majority of cases (that they won't turn off Fox News), but I DID manage to get my conservative dad to use Ground News, and he says he likes it more than Fox and that he's starting to see Fox's biased tactics, so... I guess there's hope for *some* of them?
Btw, I would like to take a moment to commend you. It's not easy holding a discussion like this in times like these, when conservatives are hurting us tremendously, without getting absolutely furious. Nonetheless, you treated me with an abundance of respect, understanding, and kindness.
Also, I'm glad you brought up the quiet moderates. Be on the lookout for them! Some of them are quiet not because they fully agree with the others, but because they're actually questioning their ideologies. And you politely expressing your views to them can actually help confirm their suspicions!
I totally believe you. Maybe it's because I live in a *different* conservative community. If I lived in a more rural place, I'm sure it'd be MUCH more populated with extremists.
Another key difference between them is their level of nuance. The extreme, unreasonable ones say, "All the members of the left celebrated Kirk's murder!" Whereas the more reasonable ones say, "Some celebrated, but MOST (or many) of them had a conscience and instead showed sympathy."
Same things as the less reasonable ones. The difference, however, is not in what they support, but in how open-minded they are to new ideas. So, it's true that they *currently* support terrible things, but given proper discussion, they have a chance of reconsidering.
But yeah, unfortunately the super extreme ones just aren't gonna listen regardless. I guess for them we'd just better hope that their more *reasonable* conservative buddies will have the heart to convince them that we're much more moral than how we're portrayed in the media.
It definitely depends on the specific subset of conservatives you're speaking to, as to how willing they'll be to listen. Also, I've found it helpful to actively bring these things to their attention (e.g., the many Democrats who expressed sympathy for Kirk's family).
I suppose I can't verify it for sure, but it definitely doesn't sound like a "wi-fi issue" lol
