I just can't help but wonder what kind of people are piloting aircraft full of children who are being flown to another country without due process. It's a choice. Flying aircraft for ICE and DHS is a choice.

Sometimes it's the big story behind a photograph and sometimes it's simply the aesthetics of the image itself, as is the case this time. We love an old glider. In particular we love a sepia-toned photo of an old glider in Norway. More info in ALT. | šŸ›©ļø 🪽 šŸ“ šŸ‡³šŸ‡“ šŸ„‡ | šŸ”— digitaltmuseum.no/021011364740...

A lightly sepia-toned photo of what appears to be SZD-12 'Mucha 100' glider tied down at the glider school at Ƙysand, Norway in either the late 1950s or the early 1960s. The aircraft is oriented pointing to the right and slightly toward the camera. Its left wing is touching the ground, and the right wing has a line attached to it which, in turn, is attached to the ground. Its single seat is covered with a bubble canopy. A tree-covered hill rises up in the background and to the left side of the frame. A building resembling a school is visible in the distance on the right side of the frame. Part of a similar building is visible in the left side of the frame. The aircraft's registration, painted on the side of the fuselage although partially obscured, appears to be Ā« LN-GGN Ā». The field in which the scene is set has fairly long grass. Although uncertain given the black and white photo, it seems as though wild flowers are growing in the foreground. The sky is uniform sepia-toned white. Original caption from source, translated with Google Translate: Ā« The glider school at Ƙysand, in the municipality of Melhus, was run in the years 1957 – 1961. The first two years were run by the Norwegian Aero Club, before Trondheim Fk. took over. The flying strip here was well suited – with its own ā€œhangā€ (buoyancy) at Ƙyberga. The nonprofit’s records request and the state’s denial revealed that Alaska, four years after creating a council on murdered and missing Indigenous people, cannot readily identify murder cases involving Indigenous victims. The state now employs four investigators who focus on such cases. ā€œHow do they know which cases are Alaska Native or Indigenous people for their MMIP investigators if they cannot do a simple pull of the demographics that we are talking about?ā€ Apok said.

I always taught my students - who were soldiers & dependents at FT Wainwright, AK - that the first thing to know about Lee was that he was a traitor. Any battle analysis etc., that we studied involving him was secondary to that fact. Same for Jackson and all the others. They were traitors.

People are often surprised to learn that Lee was an officer who never made it past colonel. The purported promotion to general was awarded by a treasonous cabal calling itself the "confederate states of america" which was put down by force by the Union army, which also had superior generals.

Why should I write better when a machine can do it for me? Because actually no one can do it for you, because your voice is unique among all the people on earth. Siri never petted a horse's neck. Alexa has never been ghosted by the captain of the football team. But you have lived, your heart is beating, you have suffered, and you have something important to say. It's a human's job, to use words, and whatever job you give to a machine, that part of your brain goes dark. Maybe it's worth it when it comes to remembering phone numbers and directions, but when that part of your brain that uses words goes dark, that's a vast area that's very close to your soul. Don't let some internet platform convince you that what you have to say and create isn't worthwhile. Words are the echo of your soul. Honing that echo matters.

One thing I see in comments is a lot of people still saying solar and wind are no good when the sun isn't shining and the wind isn't blowing. People, there are these things called batteries, which have also experienced huge progress 2/

WCK’s mobile bakery in Gaza is currently producing 45,000 loaves of bread every day. With more supplies, including flour and fuel, we'd be able to more than double that daily output and support more Palestinian families in need. #ChefsForGaza

To see a carefully made-up white woman saying these words to a white woman and white man (who nod in agreement) really makes the whole message from this administration crystal fucking clear.

I was struck by that as well in Samantha Powers' "A Problem From Hell". To see such language embraced in America is shocking.

You’re not gonna believe this, but just this once: I’m asking for help on the internet ::braces self:: SPECIFICALLY, I am looking for help from jewelry/costume jewelry experts who can tell me something about this bracelet that I can’t figure out just by running an image search. Ahem. (Thread)

A pretty vintage bracelet that is very light and feels kind of cheap to be honest - it’s links are rectangles in a Carmel/pink/cream color with a white cameo pattern that appears to show flowers, but I’m not sure what kind.

It's the aircraft type I'm thinking about. GlobalX is running Airbus for ICE. If they want to replicate that size, then I think it will get complicated.

from chandra manning's wonderful book "what this cruel war was over"

Nothing made slavery’s toxicity more obvious to Union troops than its effect on the fundamental unit of society, the family. For one thing, slave sales separated families. In the Upper South, where many Union soldiers were stationed in 1861, about one in three first marriages was broken by sale, and about half of all slave children were separated from at least one parent. 129 With their own eyes, soldiers saw slavery snap bonds between parents and children. The men of the Seventh Wisconsin were awakened by gunshots one November night. The following day, soldiers ā€œlearned, and saw the cause of the alarm in the form of two negro women—a mother and a daughter.ā€ The pair had fled to Union lines to avoid the proposed sale of the ā€œgoodlookingā€ daughter into the so-called fancy trade, which soldiers viewed as a form of concubinage. Outraged by the plight and moved by the vulnerability of the mother and daughter, ā€œevery private in the ranksā€ cursed ā€œthat system which tramples on the honor of man, and makes merchandise of the virtue of women,ā€ according to one member of the regiment. 130 When an Iowan encountered a young child about to be sold by her own father, who was also her master, he vowed, ā€œBy G–d I’ll fight till hell freezes over and then I’ll cut the ice and fight on.ā€ 131

The amount of hiring (or subcontracting for pilots and mechanics) that DHS will have to do to accomplish this goal is massive. And the money...wow. (I would say they would cancel their existing contracts if this comes to pass but the likelihood is that they will keep them for internal flights.)
