Fair. Certainly not the first to steal relief or downplay the scope of the disaster. I don't know that statehood helps because Trump just totally doesn't give a shit, but maybe if they could vote for him, someone could at least pretend, which they currently don't.

It flies by on that loop, but here's the final frame... the demise of the radar. The radar is located at that little black dot south of San Juan, and the outer eyewall had just reached it.
This 23-hour radar loop shows Category 5 Hurricane Maria approaching Puerto Rico on September 19-20, 2017. It made landfall as a Category 4 hurricane ~6am on the 20th, but right around that time, the winds in the outer eyewall obliterated the radar and the loop ends. Maria devasted the entire island
I wanted to get a video of this ghost crab but every time I got close to their hole they scuttled back in, so I tried getting clever with it. I made a little sandcastle and shoved my phone into it, hit record, and walked away. Crab was VERY suspicious of this addition to their environment.

Time for people in political science and adjacent fields to do the work educating folks about what illiberalism is. What majoritarianism is. How "democracy" can still technically exist while civil liberties, rights, and protections for minority groups are vastly eroded.
