keep seeing LUCKY DAY in airport bookstores which is very nice (especially because there is crashing plane on the side so i am surprised they are carrying it) but also just saw bury your gays AND camp damascus. pretty dang cool. nobody tells you how cool the airport bookstore sighting is
i thought same thing although it kind of makes sense. i find martyrs more difficult in a sort of visceral trot and even though funny games is still visceral it also comes off as upsetting in an 'intellectual exercise' kind of way. it feels like a thought experiment, which a love, but it is different
other two were SCREAM and FUNNY GAMES (american version)
amazing how some horror is so visceral that just sayin the name in front of a crowd will make buckaroos groan and gasp. was asked during Q and A last night what my favorite horror movie was and i offered three. when i said MARTYRS (french version) there was a dang PHYSICAL reaction. thats art bud

My only beef with Lucky Day is that it’s the kind of book I need everyone in the world to read but I have no idea how to describe it? A gory bildungsroman? Perfect chaos? This is a weirdly queer book for weird queers and you might not even know you’re a weird queer until you read this! Just read it!

YES that is one of the biggest things, you are so correct. in the 'big time' of other fields there are so many buckaroos who are actually just business folks who happen to work in movies. that is fine and they can be nice, but in publishing everyone involved is a BOOK PERSON in their dang heart
yes there is just something so ROMANTIC about it in every sense of the word. fun to think 'i want to see my name in LIGHTS' but seeing your name in a bookstore is just... dang.
NEVER would have guessed that as a young buckaroo. sorry if this is a meandering post, just kind of meditating on that today. feels like fate hit me with lightening twice but in the good direction. i am overwhelmed with gratitude.
i love writing, so the surprise isnt about that, its just that this was NOT the life trot i expected. a very strange place to be, reaching the sort of 'worldwide corporate distribution' level in two unrelated art fields with no crossover at all. and then to get to compare them. i like books the best
in early days of my other creative way (lets pretend acting) youd trot to the theater opening day to see the poster, maybe buy a ticket. its kinda the childhood dream i think. now i get to trot to the bookstore on release week and to the surprise of younger me i like seeing my book on the shelf more

yes that is pretty close actually. only change i would make is that while these sides of me are close to equal i do not believe the trot is a perfect 50/50 split. i think the version of me with the pink bag over my head is slightly more of the REAL me (if that trot could ever be quantified)
