The filmmakers made a choice to help rehabilitate this woman’s reputation. It’s gross. She relentlessly abused her own daughter with thousands of text messages, even telling her repeatedly to kill herself, for 1.5 years. Other children were blamed at times. Several lives negatively impacted.
The doc keeps calling it catfishing. It isn’t. The child wasn’t lured into a relationship by a fake identity. She was relentlessly stalked and abused, along with another child, and they suffered serious harm. And the mom got a slap on the wrist. Very frustrating. I feel so bad for these kids.
The FBI guy just called it “cyber Munchausen’s”. That’s the old term for factitious disorder, in this case by proxy. I once had a patients whose mother was causing unexplained hematuria by injuring their urethra with a q-tip. No different than injuring a child’s mental health with abusive texts.
Her lack of apparent remorse is disgusting. And her explanation for doing it is a blatant lie. Watching her reminds me of other parents who abused their child for the psychological gain of outsmarting perceived authority figures or sympathy.

Not specifically. I don’t think RFK is a scientologist but they are rabidly anti-psychiatry. But in general, some on the left are just anti-Big Pharma and think SSRIs are a scam. Some on the right, particularly men, are anti-mental health and think you are weak if you take pills for it.

Sure, just insulting Trump isn’t necessarily a strong approach. But mocking him while pointing out the flaws in his thinking or his approach to governing might hit the sweet spot for some people. And I doubt anyone who wasn’t going to vote MAGA already would do so because we were “too mean”.
No one thing is THE answer. Satire, mockery, parody reach some people. No different than tackling pseudoscience and quackery. I can speak from personal experience that what got me to first pay attention to critical thinking was a television show called Bullshit! that mercilessly went after nonsense.

A woman who was 20 weeks pregnant fed her toddler son raw milk. He contracted Campylobacter and then passed the infection to her; she progressed to sepsis, and had a miscarriage. She is suing the business that sells the raw milk, saying she didn’t know the risk. Don’t feed your kids raw milk.
