IT guy is here! Photo from my collection, no date/info.

Color photo that has become orange hued with age showing a shorthaired grey tabby cat standing on its hind legs on a chair to examine a typewriter on the desk in front of it. The cat seems to be pawing at the top of the machine.

It's the same as when kids walk out of their high schools to protest gun violence or censorship. They aren't expelled, they just went outside to protest. Here, employees were expressing solidarity with the 4 colleagues who resigned together. And articles included that context.

The LLM literally doesn't know what words mean. Words are tokens that are auto-generated based on probability. This is why LLMs don't identify sarcasm or parody or multiple meanings of words and phrases that depend on context, i.e. the meaning of adjacent words/sentences (at a minimum).

It would be easy to demonstrate a compelling state interest in preventing software that simulates speech from cheering on children's suicidal ideation/plans or offering tips after a failed suicide attempt. In other words, this alleged speech can be limited without violating the 1st Amendment.

Resources aren't scarce. Private companies are free to fund their own scientific goals. The government funds science without regard to it's presumed profit potential which is good b/c we're terrible at such predictions. Discoveries can come from anywhere in science. What rights?

I can see what he's thinking but (1) this level of troop presence is not sustainable (assuming it's even legal), and more importantly, (2) more cops don't decrease crime. Maybe he should get a taser or a whistle like college students do.

What is "rights-protecting government" in the context of funding science? Government funded science has never been politicized to this extreme degree and most of what Trump is doing is anywhere from blatantly unconstitutional to straight up criminal. He has fixed NOTHING.

Life in prison is not a proportional sentence for identity theft. No amount of harsh state action will stop crime. We might avoid repeat offending by spending money on rehabilitation and getting people jobs and housing when they get out so they aren't inclined to steal again though ...

Dozens of advanced countries figured this out and absolutely DON'T have mass shootings at even a fraction of the rate of the US. Gun restrictions are a no-brainer. So is mental health care, but not b/c of mass shootings. Our far bigger problem is suicide. Separate problems, separate solutions.

Tip: w/US health insurance it's free. BUT there's a loophole. A screening mammogram is free. A diagnostic mammogram is not. If they add an ultrasound or have you repeat the mammogram in 6 months everything's diagnostic for the that time PLUS the following year - even if they don't find anything.

This is patently untrue. The administration is currently fighting in a California court to reverse an order stopping them from profiling based on appearance, job, location, etc. They want to RESUME broad sweeps and warrantless stops.

As law enforcement officers well know - anything someone does in public is fair game to be observed. There's no privacy interest re: where you drive your identifiable vehicle. I suggest they try Getting Over It.

NFL Network has decided to depart from it's tradition of having the home team's announcers on its broadcast and I am stuck with the Browns instead of the Eagles. Boooooo!

Love to text mine "Are you here?" Better than yelling downstairs I suppose.

I got these cats from the shelter in May 2020 and they're pretty great.

A tortoiseshell cat and a brown torbie cat sitting on a beige striped chair.

Every Rx from my Dr gets denied for insurance prior authorization and I have to pay cash until they ask my Dr why they wrote it. I've paid for 3 refills and after 35 minutes on the phone they say they only got the quantity approved but not the drug itself. WTF are we even doing?!

Finland also pegs traffic fines to your income. I recall a story about Teemu Selanne (NHL player) getting a $250k speeding ticket back in the early 00's. In addition to being fairer, it could help fund redesign and construction of safer streets.

I got one of my shots in a Target dressing room. That was kind of surreal.

That really shows how much tarrifs and Doge cuts have harmed the economy (even though the stats are still catching up to reality). Hiring is all but frozen. Entire industries are hedging their bets in the face of massive uncertainty. It makes everyone nervous.

It might not matter unless our party leaders stop acting and speaking like the midterms are (a) an inevitable victory, and (b) will give Dems enough power to stop a President who is completely ignoring both Congress and laws generally (much less rebuild what's been destroyed).

Honestly, I think if what you've described wasn't happening the ad would've hit differently. I might have raised an eyebrow and moved on with life if this ad came out 10 years ago. The reference to genetics stands out *because* of who's in charge and what they say.

It seems like Dems overemphasize policy positions that change with polls instead of just taking a position they believe in and defending it. This is also known as leadership. My Rep Jason Crow gets this and he's recruiting Dem House candidates for 2026. Hopefully we get some good leaders.🤞🏻

It's certainly within sight given that we have 3.5 more years of this hellish administration, which has several outright eugenicists atop critical Federal agencies. Nobody is overreacting here.
