Unemployment is at its highest since the pandemic. There's some good in this response. But still going ahead with government spending cuts and letting other industries and education/research bleed out is wildly frustrating. Don't just talk about ambition.

Something percolating in my brain lately is that it took until middle age for millenials to find actual financial stability. Which means going forward savings goals are either catching up or giving up. Younger people are dealing with that prospect AND apparently much worse. This is not sustainable.

Look at this graph. The share of national income going to the richest 10 percent was lowest (and share to lower 90 percent highest) when union membership was at its highest. As unions have weakened, inequality has widened. This is why we must build back union power.

I'll say it even louder: SEGM is a pro-conversion anti-science hate group. This is a hate group that has been tracked by honest journalists and watchdogs for years. The fact that a research group at #McMaster took their funding shows deep problems with their ethics review for medical research.

Over the past week I've had two conversations with random people about Gaza and fascism and the state of the world with non-politically engaged people in my life. Practically strangers. On one hand, I think it demonstrates how anxious people are. On the other, there's a sliver of hope in that.

Sad to update that community members have pointed out that this McMaster prof has been cited by Trump admin 52 times and that this distancing from SEGM with a donation is saving face/deflection from the very real harm he's caused. Goes beyond too little too late.

Every once in a while I will see something like "conservative had affair as they petition to end gay marriage" and remember just how deeply sad these people are. Can't even live up to their own draconic rules. Locked into awful lives. Little wonder that they want to ruin everyone else's.
I will always be impressed by the logical contortions required to argue that puberty blockers are too irreversible to be allowed, but that it is somehow perfectly fine to force a child to go through a deeply distressing and far more irreversible endogenous puberty.
In urban policy, it is considered bad for someone to be rent-burdened (spending at least 30% of their income on rent). But Cuomo's newly proposed law would *require* that people be rent-burdened. Absolutely insane.
