True. We can't just cede that ground, but it's tough when there are constituencies that demonstrably don't care. Between the "we like him because of his character" and the "our single issue is all that matters" crowds, those messages don't land and may never land. We need the non-voters to vote.

Not many clear-cut right/wrong or good/better/best distinctions in my world, but it is interesting to compare #RustConf 2024 and 2025 and #PyCon 2025 in terms of developer-focused conferences. Of course, 1 was pre-election, 1 was early T2, and 1 is now. Travel, visas, etc. have changed a lot... ๐ค

Surprises suck. Being Agile is awesome unless security, audit, and/or others are on the waterfall path, brought in at the last minute or later. Want audit to be easy peasy? Bring them in. Want security to sign off? Bring them in. Want infra, service management, etc. to love your changes? Etc.

There are no #IT islands, and there can't be if devs want a pain / fear / friction-free experience. Design for security. Yay! Design for privacy. Yay! How about design for auditability? Design for discovery & mapping? Design for change management? Design to leverage infrastructure as code?

Strange how reading an English #grammar textbook keeps echoing both #Rust traits and the type-state design pattern in my head. I'm not saying that Rust is a "natural" language by any stretch of the imagination, but the amount of context we can preserve/transmit in code at compile-time is impressive.
