When do I most think about moving to an urban environment where I (almost) never need my own car? When I'm replacing my 5th or 6th tire in 2 years because of nails and screws getting into parts of tires that are in the no-fix zones... #GiveMeTransit

True. We can't just cede that ground, but it's tough when there are constituencies that demonstrably don't care. Between the "we like him because of his character" and the "our single issue is all that matters" crowds, those messages don't land and may never land. We need the non-voters to vote.

Surprises suck. Being Agile is awesome unless security, audit, and/or others are on the waterfall path, brought in at the last minute or later. Want audit to be easy peasy? Bring them in. Want security to sign off? Bring them in. Want infra, service management, etc. to love your changes? Etc.

Let me get this straight. 5GW of peak power use. Not a word about any green/renewable power. Off grid, so even if others could supply renewable power, they won't tap into it. And, 5GW of cooling req's in dry, dusty Texas. Sounds very #sustainable! ๐Ÿคฎ www.datacenterdynamics.com/en/news/paci...

Not sure what it says about the #GPU supply, but walking into a random Best Buy and finding multiple 5090s in stock was kind of a surprise...

Sustainability isn't just some nebulous, global issue that's tough to grasp. It's down and dirty, every day, table stakes if you care about - well - anything or anyone. If your business is nothing but a means to gather money and power, so be it. Say so, and I'll avoid your business if possible...

"The #AI industry will be destroyed if we have to abide by copyright and/or pay for copyright-protected inputs! You must let us crawl your pages/sites! You must let us destroy your business model! AI is just that important!" Sorry. That elicits neither sympathy nor empathy from me...

As the great financial crisis of 2008-9 faded, I remember hearing business folks on #Marketplace and elsewhere crying about "If I can't get cheap, easy credit, I won't be able to make payroll!" Just wrapping my head around that was painful. You don't even have the cash flow for weekly payroll???

I admit to being on the "risk averse" end of the business spectrum... Them: "What have you done? You're no [their own personal Jesus] who's done [their favorite thing]!" Me: "I also haven't done their laundry list of shady **** to get ahead." Them: "That's just being an entrepreneur!" Me: ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ

Strange how reading an English #grammar textbook keeps echoing both #Rust traits and the type-state design pattern in my head. I'm not saying that Rust is a "natural" language by any stretch of the imagination, but the amount of context we can preserve/transmit in code at compile-time is impressive.

Can't wait to hear the "settlement" terms... ๐Ÿคฎ Big #AI needs to run on a sustainable and legal basis or fold up their tents and find something better to do with their lives...

#HeavySigh Can't imagine why a speaker who works for a big name Chinese company in China would think coming into the U.S. to speak at a tech conference might be a problem right now. Virtual is still good, but we're not what we once were as a country...

LOL 3 for 3! 1: We do Y because X won't work! 2: X works fine! 3: We do X and here's how Y fails! Not at all confusing, I promise! ๐Ÿ˜‡

Easy for someone who's not focused on chip design 24x7 to get lost in all the acronyms and jargon at a conference like #HotChips2025, but there's so much to learn anyway. LOL And, I love mutually exclusive claims in back-to-back talks. "xyz can't work in this domain!" "here's how we did it!"

Dug my college English grammar text book out of the back shelves today. Why? Because I have a nagging feeling that the second L in #LLM really shouldn't be there, much like the L in #ML and the I in what's being hyped as #AI lately. #TheCurmudgeonCrew

Interesting answer from #HotChips2025... Paraphrasing: "We're delivering this Xeon processor with compute tiles / chiplets on 18A. Otherwise, I would not have said it." That's a lot more definite than I thought the Intel 18A roadmap was, but I guess we'll find out over time...
