Climate change does not mean more solar energy hitting the surface. If anything, it will mean less solar energy reaching the surface, when in our desperation we finally have to rely on solar radiation management.

Great idea. There will be some who say "wait, you're describing a religion, and that's already been invented," but you are a disruptor and have no time for the naysayers. Try adding AI.
Chris Osborn (@csosborn.bsky.social) reply parent
I agreed.

They used "demise" as an intransitive verb, as in "the spacecraft demised." Ick.

“Only you can prevent socialism, but unfortunately this angry socialist bear took your gun and your dumb bandolier and he looks really angry and you’ve wet your pants.”
Chris Osborn (@csosborn.bsky.social) reply parent
Yes.

And if not Andor’s son, then by similar logic he could be mom to the Ewoks.

I suspect the thing they have that he’d covet most is the “Supreme Leader” title.

Assuming the task was to design a single object that could serve as both bad screwdriver and bad drill bit, Phillips did an admirable job.

Clean energy isn’t miserable enough to generate the grim scenery a show like Landman needs. A gritty drama about the insurance underwriter who worries about hail damage and all the solar installers suffering minor workplace injuries is something I’d totally watch, but I’m a weirdo.
Chris Osborn (@csosborn.bsky.social) reply parent
Pfft. We all know they don’t work in sand.

It would be just like them to somehow bring manufacturing back despite it all and then make only left shoes.
Chris Osborn (@csosborn.bsky.social) reply parent
Unless the original were to somehow turn to stone, gorgon-style. That might be nice.
Chris Osborn (@csosborn.bsky.social) reply parent
Is the Pavlovian explanation sufficient here? These are people well trained to feel happy and vindicated when a TV infographic fills with red.
Chris Osborn (@csosborn.bsky.social) reply parent
Sigh. Males.

I just upgraded from a Model 3 to a Mach-E as well! It feels so solid and smooth and quiet compared to the rattletrap Tesla. And of course it’s much less likely to kill or imprison me at a Musk’s command, which I find comforting.
Chris Osborn (@csosborn.bsky.social) reply parent
“But what about her [entirely separate and unaccountable IT infrastructure that certainly includes] emails?”
Chris Osborn (@csosborn.bsky.social) reply parent
Nothing says efficiency like getting a “security engineer at two of Mr. Musk’s companies” to climb on the roof looking for somewhere to bolt an antenna.
Chris Osborn (@csosborn.bsky.social) reply parent
Great idea. If Teslas are more legally protected than many humans, then they’ll make for better-than-human-shields.
Chris Osborn (@csosborn.bsky.social)
I am now a former Tesla owner. Good riddance. It feels great! #teslatakedown

On the off chance we still have some tropical rain forest stubbornly hanging on in 2032, this might just finish the job.
Chris Osborn (@csosborn.bsky.social) reply parent
It’s jarring how the show can’t help but depict the shitty dehumanizing misery of fossil fuel dependency, and yet there are annoying pro-oil mansplaining sessions at every turn. It’s hard to watch.

Footnote for historical context: in the period this quotation references, the term “federal law” still indicated the system of jurisprudence then in use at the American national level; it had not yet taken on its contemporary interpretation as a shortening of “Federalist Society law”.

Let me Google that for you while I pour this big bucket of crude on this tree of peerless majesty, set it aflame, then divert the remains of this ailing river over here to cool the embers. Ah, yes, here are your results now. How else may I be of assistance?

I'm grateful that these scammers have been able to hold off the inevitable long enough that it can now happen on Trump's watch.
Chris Osborn (@csosborn.bsky.social) reply parent
It was 12 dollars back when there was some good stuff to watch on there. Now it’s maybe 3 dollars. If I want slop written by ghosts in place of actual entertainment, I’ll just talk to ChatGPT. That way I at least have the joy of costing Sam Altman some money.

Some of us feel it. I bought my Tesla 5 years ago to reduce my CO2 use, before the obvious Nazi valence settled on it. Now I leave it unwashed, all the dings and dents unrepaired, and look forward to discarding it entirely.

Corporations now enjoy many of the rights of real people, but their only responsibility is avarice. What could go wrong.
Chris Osborn (@csosborn.bsky.social) reply parent
As moments ago, yes. Great stuff.

You’re not setting these companies up for success. There should be a separate column for “make LA fires worse.” Then they’d be able to put up much bigger numbers.

You’re right, Tim Cook made that donation in his capacity as private citizen who just really appreciates Trump as a person and wants to see him enjoy his big day. He failed to click the “make this donation anonymous” box on the form because it was too small to see on his phone screen.

I’m dreading that day for my six year old. He already has the knowledge (I told him), but a visceral sense of the sheer inhumane brutality of it hasn’t had a chance to really take hold.

Not true! You got me a parable about climate change (where most of the bad guys actually get their just desserts) that I can return to when my usual diet of actual climate change gets too heavy. Oh wait that was a few years ago.
