Cool thing about working at the big N is that we get new movies & shows ~21 days before the public. There’s a new series I want to check out but it’s very much a “watch when the kids are sleeping” type of show.
This has been Day 3 of full isolation in my bedroom trying to keep my husband and my kids healthy and I’m bored out of my mind. I am really terrible at staying idle. I’ve read a book and a half, played Steamdeck, spent far more time on TikTok than I care to admit. About to switch to TV watching now.
I’ve put like 24 hours into the game so I’m still very much in the early stages where it’s ALL collecting of things
I frequently log in to play it, but my quest list is currently 12 different villagers who all want me to collect like 15 things each. I have no patience anymore for “walk around and collect things and the turn them in afterward” as the main game mechanic. 😩
Disney Dreamlight Valley is one of the grindiest quest/checklist games in the history of games. I absolutely adore the IP, I love the graphics and polish level. But the actual gameplay loop is absolutely insufferably monotonous to me, and I’m sad about it.

Increasingly feeling like if we want a sustainable career making games now, especially if we have a family to support, we need to move to the woods in the middle of nowhere. We can’t pay our LA/OC/SF/Seattle rents off tiny indie studio salaries, and AAA studio jobs are bleeding and unstable.
In Donkey Kong Bananza, all of DK's Bananza ability sound effects harmonize with *all* background music. While only the dedicated Bananza songs normally play during this, turning off "Bananza Vocals" in the menu reveals that they harmonize with every piece of music in the game.

This book made me actually cry, and there was a plot twist that had me staring slack-jawed and saying “oh my god” for like 10 minutes straight. It’s YA, about a tender romance during the Syrian Revolution. Heartbreaking, really hard to read, emotional, and so well-written.

I got an Oura ring and it detected a “workout” when my HR spiked to 110bpm for standing and folding clothes for 15 min. And now I’m laying in bed doing nothing with a HR of 88bpm. Basically Covid sucks.

I’ve never had this problem with Twitter/Bsky/YouTube/Insta/Reddit/Snapchat, but the TikTok algorithm is just TOO GOOD. It knows how to serve you content that you’re absolutely interested in, and it’s really hard to stop scrolling.
I talked to multiple coworkers this week who all had to take TikTok off their phone because of how much they love it (compulsion, doom scrolling) and it’s an interesting phenomenon I haven’t heard about for any other social media. And also, my husband and I have done the same, for the same reason!
