Dad was a fireman, his station had Mama Cat who was a particular favorite of my dad (and he was a favorite of hers). She slept on his bunk and napped on his lap if he was doing paperwork. One of her litters, he brought a kitty home for Little Me. 😊 She was with me from kindergarten to college age.
That is ASTONISHINGLY blue! 😮 No wonder it was saved for only the most important illuminations.

Used to see one that would hang onto twigs to drink from flowers, not sure if she was young or just lazy. 💜 Same bird landed on and clung to my pink shirt, poking in the fabric for nectar - several times! I am sure she was very confused why the biggest flower she'd EVER seen had nothing to eat!

I just learned about that, in a discussion of the little hills all around Mt. Shasta and how they were formed by an epic, ancient landslide. And the indigenous lore of Shasta and Crater throwing rocks at each other. Can you imagine being witness to that event?

I'd go out sketching with a Prang set any day. Some kid palettes that I tried, I couldn't scrub color off the pans with a Brillo pad.
If you ever want to see the difference - grab the cheapest kid-paint palette you can get your hands on, and try painting. Prang is actually quite nice, it's the department store off-brand ones that feature remarkably low tinting strength.

I can't sleep because I can't stop thinking about how loud a centipede would be if it wore 100 tiny flipflops.
Also: Teen Me, an astronomy nerd, learned about solstices and how the sun's apparent position changes through the year. Seeing it happen in real time was a game-changer and is still the #1 way I know what time it is, and what season.
I think you're right on all points. Sense-memories that record the state of light, how the air feels, the way a room smells. That shift in light = back-to-school days. As I grew, it was sadness at the loss of summer, then nostalgia, now growing excitement for my new favorite season. 🍂
