My mom smuggled vodka into the care home where my granny spent her last few months. My granny never got drunk, but she grew up with the taste and they only allowed beer and wine at the home. When you're 90+ and managed to not damage your liver thus far ... π€·ββοΈ

Oh no. I'm sorry to hear that. I hope next week will be better and that we'll get a golden rather than gloomy fall! ππβοΈ

I'd love to have a dog and while I could afford it financially by now, I know I don't have enough time.
Cyrinne (@cyrinne.dev) reply parent
Okay, 750 is a bit much. That does sound odd.
Cyrinne (@cyrinne.dev) reply parent
I get where you're coming from, but at least they're rehoming her instead of dumping her somewhere. Rehoming fees are pretty common in Germany. Especially for animals from a shelter, but I've also seen them in private ads - perhaps the family has a different cultural background?
Cyrinne (@cyrinne.dev) reply parent

I'm sorry that your world (and ours) needs to be brightened, but thanks so much for always posting your lovely pictures and words.

I've been wondering why you went with individual shares rather than an index fund / ETF on the MSCI World or similar? The latter spreads the risk and you can skip the research / monitoring required for individual shares to avoid complete losses.

I've never seen this cat before. The last lurker came in 2018 or 2019 when there were no privacy stripes yet. Thus, I feel entirely justified in my response as my face was a mere two feet from the cat when I turned from my desk to fetch something. π
Cyrinne (@cyrinne.dev)
Just got a message from my husband upstairs: "What happened? Did you scare yourself? Wasn't me!" This. This happened. π€£ #cats

Thank you, it was better. βΊοΈ Even the dentist couldn't find anything.
Cyrinne (@cyrinne.dev) reply parent
And what about Bluesky? When you search there? The claim was that Bluesky was censoring the results for some reason. Perhaps it was just a technical glitch that the search wasn't working, who knows.
Cyrinne (@cyrinne.dev) reply parent
Wow. I see tons of posts when I repeat that search. I'm in Germany.
Cyrinne (@cyrinne.dev) reply parent
I have a pen pal from the US who's worried about snail mail not being secure anymore. Do you know anything about that? I haven't heard anything regarding USPS censorship nor could I find anything online.
Cyrinne (@cyrinne.dev) reply parent
Regarding the scraping, I'm not sure it can be avoided if you post anything in public and bots will try to sign up for anything else, too, even the most obscure private forum.
Cyrinne (@cyrinne.dev) reply parent
Ah, okay. At least for now, third-party clients for Bluesky may be a solution for the censorship part:

Cyrinne (@cyrinne.dev) reply parent
Thank you! I do have to leave early for that and yes, only two more days this week!

Today was basically a "red chicken day". π€£
Cyrinne (@cyrinne.dev)
Wow, I was so wrong. I had totally forgotten about how all hell tends to break loose as soon as my co-workers are on vacation. I'll probably be able to laugh about this next week, but today was so bad it was positively absurd.
Cyrinne (@cyrinne.dev) reply parent
Are you positive it isn't pure hatred on the IDE side?! π Mine can smell upcoming releases and has made an evil pact with Gradle to add some extra excitement to crunch times. π€£

Haven't gotten very far yet as I had to have a very stern word with Intellij IDEA about loading and running the example code first, but if it's only half as good as advertised, I'm almost certain that I will enjoy it. π

So very pretty! Thanks so much for sharing this with us. Have a lovely day! π

I finally started to read the book today after seeing all your posts, haha. I had bought it more ot less as soon as it was available, I think, but hadn't gotten around to it yet. π
Cyrinne (@cyrinne.dev) reply parent
I've noticed a lot of dying conifers in my area - large, established ones, too. Not sure what exactly is causing this, but it seems to be more than just a coincidence as the larger ones have been around for quite some time.
Cyrinne (@cyrinne.dev) reply parent
Hope you'll feel better soon!
Cyrinne (@cyrinne.dev) reply parent
Thanks. Yes, it'll be better tomorrow. I haven't quite given up on my (young-ish) co-workers just yet, it's just knowing how it could be (as I had that in my previous job) ... On the bright side - today gave me a few more talking points for the annual performance review that's coming up. π
Cyrinne (@cyrinne.dev) reply parent
Thank you. I'm sure it will. I already sorted out a few things today and managed to get to the bottom of my inbox, so things should be better tomorrow.

@lisihocke.bsky.social My day was quite the opposite of how you described coming back to work after a vacation. I went through several iterations of this bookmark today. π

It's worth it, the seeds will be good for about 8 years (tomato seeds store comparatively well).
Cyrinne (@cyrinne.dev) reply parent
I do let mine ferment for a bit (couple of days), but not long enough for them to sprout. After rinsing, I dry them on a plate as they are no longer sticky then. I'm afraid the ones in the picture may not work because of the sprouting. Perhaps you could try it again to be safe?
Cyrinne (@cyrinne.dev) reply parent
You're not a prude, just being prudent! I just block those. That also removes their posts for me.

Oh, and I just tried to find a new ball of yarn that matched the color of the end of the old one. The sleeves aren't perfectly symmetrical, but that's okay.
Cyrinne (@cyrinne.dev) reply parent
Modifications: Some extra rows both for the sleeves and for front & back. Some extra decreases near the cuffs of the sleeves to make them less wide.

Good luck! As a German, I only know the Continental style, though I've seen the English version in videos. Therefore, I can't answer your question, though I also use the pinkie when I crochet, if that helps a little. βΊοΈ
Cyrinne (@cyrinne.dev) reply parent
Congrats! π
Cyrinne (@cyrinne.dev) reply parent
Well, it's an abbreviation for BΓΌstenhalter (literally "bust/bosom holder") which is so very old-fashioned that you hardly ever hear that. That one does have a few more letters. π
Cyrinne (@cyrinne.dev) reply parent
No worries, I had guessed as much, but my brain still jumps to bra first. π For frying, I actually use slightly underripe tomatoes for best results (when they have just the first hint of color, but still look green). Nothing for kids or to serve often, but very tasty!
Cyrinne (@cyrinne.dev) reply parent
Have you tried different ways of wrapping the yarn around (different) fingers? For me, once around the pinkie works best for some reason, even though I was taught going around the index finger instead.
Cyrinne (@cyrinne.dev) reply parent

Cyrinne (@cyrinne.dev) reply parent
It always takes me a second to get what you mean when you write "BH" (which is the German equivalent of "bra"). π I can't ID those toms, except for green zebra perhaps?

Had a great time at the zoo in Gelsenkirchen the other day. They really are doing their best to provide large and appropriate enclosures for the animals. The animals are free to hide whenever they feel like it ... or to play pranks on the visitors. π

Maybe I should've become a tester instead of a software developer after all - I keep on finding the weirdest bugs without even looking for any. I just ordered my meds. During check out, everything was suddenly multiplied by two. Good thing I double-checked the total before I hit pay. π

Thank you, that makes me feel less alone in this. π I mean, they're right - it's often easier to go fast than to stick with doing a slow run. Most beginners run too fast and some others never do easy runs either. BTW, I've been overtaken by someone walking their dog before. π
Cyrinne (@cyrinne.dev) reply parent
I've been replying to your deleted post about this... Would you like a dm instead? π

Now I'm wondering how many onions I grow - I honestly have no clue! Not this many, surely, but still ... I love to grow (and eat) them as well. Yours look nice - I don't think I've seen a pink one before, only the dark red ones.
Cyrinne (@cyrinne.dev) reply parent
I can imagine! Thankfully, this blackberry is a thornless cultivar. With the wild ones, you end up scratched on top of stained sooner or later, haha.
Cyrinne (@cyrinne.dev) reply parent
Thank you. I live in a city, but near it's outer limits, so there is a bit of nature to be had nearby while we can still use public transport to get anywhere we need to be. (Which is crucial for us since we don't own a car.)
Cyrinne (@cyrinne.dev) reply parent
Thank you. π
Cyrinne (@cyrinne.dev) reply parent
I must have missed that somehow when I purchased the seeds.
Cyrinne (@cyrinne.dev) reply parent
Still, that's better than this! I'd guess there's a norm for the height etc. in Germany - the public benches are all very similar.
Cyrinne (@cyrinne.dev) reply parent
Where I currently live, they seem to have dropped them at random in the forest. Most face a bunch of nettles. Some a bunch of brambles. There are nicer views to be had, but no benches there.
Cyrinne (@cyrinne.dev) reply parent
True! I froze them, though.
Cyrinne (@cyrinne.dev) reply parent
Do you feel the third section falls into this category as well or did the author at least stick to sensible suggestions? (Face cream makes me doubt that a little.)
Cyrinne (@cyrinne.dev) reply parent
Thanks for the review. I'm a little allergic to the "DIY" stuff that is often propagated in such books. It's not minimalist if I need to buy a ton of stuff from different online stores to make a product that I can buy a decent version of and it is not minimalist at all to make stuff no one needs.
Cyrinne (@cyrinne.dev) reply parent
Congrats! π

Or even simpler: Only in butter if his taste is more like my granny's (I still love carrots this way!).
Cyrinne (@cyrinne.dev) reply parent
If he isn't opposed to raw carrots: Finely grated together with an apple (also grated), mixed with a little bit of sugar, lemon juice, and a small amount of cream as a dressing (let everything sit in the fridge for a while before serving cool or at room temp) makes a nice "salad".
