Danhanjon (@danhanjon.bsky.social) reply parent
Starmer is more manager than visionary. I think a visionary would look at the fragmentation of politics and the media frenzy around Reform and go for PR while in government. I just really really don't want to see another far right party get in.
Danhanjon (@danhanjon.bsky.social) reply parent
There it is. Did he win? NO. Did we get 7 more years of the Tories as a result? YES. The rest is irrelevant. 7 more years - Johnson, May, Truss, Sunak all as a result.
Danhanjon (@danhanjon.bsky.social) reply parent
of course you have no idea what my views on trans rights, palestine or benefits is, but feel free to throw rocks any way. I am pro human rights, pro palestine, pro redistribution. I am also pro having someone in power, however flawed, who is not far right. Block incoming, we won't agree on how
Danhanjon (@danhanjon.bsky.social) reply parent
was about to block then I see you are a Green activist. lolol. I am about to switch from a lifetime of Labour support to Greens. I like the cut of Zach's gib. No irony here!!

we have nothing to say to each other, do we? If Corbyn is your poster child for the future, then I am right. Perpetual opposition looms. Block incoming as we are going nowhere
Danhanjon (@danhanjon.bsky.social) reply parent
you obviously missed 2 failed Corbyn elections. Blame whoever you want, the result was more years of Tory government. Labour are a mile from what I want, but Jezza is empirically NOT the answer. Very few people get to fail twice
Danhanjon (@danhanjon.bsky.social) reply parent
there is no conversation we could have that will make a difference. You want, and will certainly get, perpetual opposition, while the right destroys the country. That is your right. block incoming, We have nothing to say to each other
Danhanjon (@danhanjon.bsky.social) reply parent
we are done here. if that is genuinely how you see it, we are far apart. I have said many times, opposition is easy, governing is hard. Labour has made massive mistakes, Palestine and immigration are 2 obvious ones. But to portray it as you do...I'm out. Perpetual opposition is your choice
Danhanjon (@danhanjon.bsky.social) reply parent
Welcome your next PM, Nigel Farage. The left ALWAYS eats itself. This exchange is evidence. You and I probably agree on 95% of things. Instead, we are scrapping while the right spread hate
Danhanjon (@danhanjon.bsky.social) reply parent
well lets all cheer the downfall of a government at least trying to do something. PS I agree, PR should be top of Starmers agenda, but sitting parties never want to go for it
Danhanjon (@danhanjon.bsky.social) reply parent
never let the facts get in the way of prejudice, eh? "Labour have lost some support to Reform UK (8% of its 2024 vote), but the growth in support for Farage’s party has come mainly from other sources: 42% of Reform’s new supporters come from the Tories & 33% were non-voters in 2024"
Danhanjon (@danhanjon.bsky.social) reply parent
I'm sure Farage will be very supportive
Danhanjon (@danhanjon.bsky.social) reply parent
literally nothing good is there that you can see. So welcome your next PM, Farage. Then revisit how bad Labour are.
Danhanjon (@danhanjon.bsky.social) reply parent
Just a few...legislation to bring the UK's railways back into public ownership, Banned no-fault evictions and introduced new protections for renters. free breakfast clubs for all primary school children. Scrapped the ban on onshore wind and unblocked solar schemes
Danhanjon (@danhanjon.bsky.social) reply parent
there it is. It is always Israel/ trans rights/ welfare. Don't get me wrong, I agree with you and those who oppose Israel and those who want a redistributive government. Even with all that, I would rather this lot than Farage or the tories. That's the difference
Danhanjon (@danhanjon.bsky.social)
we need more of this. Call him to account. He is a charlatan
Danhanjon (@danhanjon.bsky.social) reply parent
They have passed 2 bills a week for a year. There are many things they have fixed that get zero credit or airtime. 4 million NHS appointments, nothing. Free school meals, more nursery places. Nothing. This is a 5 year project people wanted done in 3 months
Danhanjon (@danhanjon.bsky.social) reply parent
Right of Rwanda, right of 2012 austerity, right of covid contract handouts to mates, tory welfare cuts, universal credit...just nonsense. Labour are miles from what I want them to be, but this narrative of the left that they are worse than the tories will destroy us all and Farage will sweep in
Danhanjon (@danhanjon.bsky.social) reply parent

Danhanjon (@danhanjon.bsky.social) reply parent
Wrong. The left, and yes I do count Labour as left or at least centre left, always eats itself. The desire to get everything means we end up with nothing. Perpetual opposition means we can moan down the pub while the right destroys everything. Corbyn double loss is proof
Danhanjon (@danhanjon.bsky.social) reply parent
I regularly spar with people who genuinely believe that starmer is worse than the tories. Always because they don't like Labour policy on israel/ trans/ welfare. This is madness. I don't agree with Labour on these either, but better doing something than perpetual opposition and hand wringing
