yes but again, this is like every single western government, everything is defined by how much people think the current govt sucks. far right parties offer a people a new answer. they also get voted out, even if they later get voted back in (see: US)
daniel (godunman) (@danielwaker.bsky.social) reply parent
*meaningful* change is the key here. Biden strengthened things structurally, but as he said he would do, nothing fundamentally changed. I do think social media plays a part in it, but that doesn’t change the fact the fed govt has done nothing the average person would understand since Obamacare
daniel (godunman) (@danielwaker.bsky.social) reply parent
realize is probably the wrong word honestly. but Americans *feel* it. they just don't always know how to identify it or how to channel it. they haven't re-elected a president since 2012 and flip-flop Congress every election (a trend I suspect will continue until meaningful change occurs)
daniel (godunman) (@danielwaker.bsky.social) reply parent
Sweden's inequality has also notably increased after the previous decades. their far right party also only received 20% of the parliamentary votes
daniel (godunman) (@danielwaker.bsky.social) reply parent
I think they think vile things about them because that’s the enemy the party has chosen. knowing you’re upset about your life doesn’t mean you know what the problem is
daniel (godunman) (@danielwaker.bsky.social) reply parent
it is way, way worse than in 1980 and 1950. also my point is that people *realize* the inequality more after globalization. the west were more preoccupied with the Cold War and post-war things back then
daniel (godunman) (@danielwaker.bsky.social) reply parent

yeah and the “everyone who puts in effort” is rooted in the idea that you, as an individual, should be fully responsible for sustaining your survival. I’m not saying that these people are all at their core selfish individualists, but they have been led to believe this is how they have to survive
daniel (godunman) (@danielwaker.bsky.social) reply parent
it’s more about relative conditions. they might believe socialism will impoverish them, but I think moreso the belief is that socialism puts them on a more even field with everyone else rather than allowing them to get ahead. not risking their belief in individualism in favor of their community

your thinking is very pre-2024. Trump has never been a foreign asset, his insane changes of policy on a whim are evidence of that. he simply does whatever he believes gives him the most power and control. I say the difference does not matter because either way the outcome is the same
daniel (godunman) (@danielwaker.bsky.social) reply parent
I don’t think it matters whether you are being evil or stupid when you work for the federal government. I don’t think it’s a mistake either. just matters how you deal with the problem. I don’t think you can assume that such a chaotic administration is secretly conspiring with a foreign government
